Mission and objectives
Our mission is that all children and adolescents, in every corner of Peru, have the opportunity to exercise their rights. Taking into account the inequalities that particularly affect rural populations in the Andean and Amazon regions, as well as people living in peri-urban environments, we have prioritized our presence in two Amazon regions: Ucayali and Loreto; an Andean region: Huancavelica; and a district in Lima: Carabayllo.

Context
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is the United Nations agency whose mission is the promotion and protection of the rights of girls, boys, and adolescents. UNICEF at a global level is committed to Gender Equality because it understands that both girls, boys and adolescents, men and women, have the same rights, and deserve the same opportunities, the same resources and the protection that will allow them to develop their full potential. . This is why the Gender Equality Policy (2022) and a roadmap to implement it have been approved: the Gender Action Plans (GAP). The Gender Action Plan 2022-2025 distinguishes three priority lines that cover the five groups of prioritized objectives: 1. Intersectoral institutional priorities. 2. Gender priorities throughout the life cycle. 3. Leadership and well-being of girls and adolescents. At the same time, UNICEF has developed the strategic approach to adolescent and youth engagement (ADAP), to ensure the rights-based inclusion of adolescents and young people in areas that affect their lives and their communities. , including dialogue, decision making, the development of mechanisms, processes, events, campaigns, actions and programs; ensuring their participation and opinion at all stages, from identification, analysis and design to implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNICEF programmatic interventions or public policies and programs. The contribution with the Peruvian State is reflected in the Peru – UNICEF Cooperation Program 2022-2026, which seeks to promote the rights of adolescents, girls and boys, as well as the creation of equitable opportunities so that each of them , without distinction of gender, ethnicity, place of residence, living condition or any other type, can fully develop their potential. Likewise, UNICEF Global has been implementing the Program Strategy for Adolescent Girls in 11 countries around the world, including Peru. This strategy is developed from and for female adolescents; Therefore, it will reduce gender inequalities and discrimination for adolescent girls, in different contexts, rural, indigenous, peri-urban and others, focusing on key actions.
