Mission and objectives
The UNDP Accelerator Labs are part of UNDP’s drive to be an incubator for the future. To accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda, we need to be fast and curious. The Accelerator Labs are designed to close the gap between the current practices of international development in an accelerated pace of change. They model a new capability to make breakthroughs on the future of development: inequality, decarbonization, the 4th industrial revolution and new forms of governance.

Context
Water scarcity has become a pressing issue in Tana River County, exacerbated by the unpredictable impacts of climate change. Conflicts over water access and availability have intensified, emphasizing the urgent need for accurate information on water points. Clear and up-to-date data is essential for effective planning, budgeting, and prioritizing investments in water infrastructure. To address water scarcity and achieve sustainable water governance, a transdisciplinary approach is necessary. Combining disciplines such as hydrology, sociology, and human geography provides a comprehensive understanding of water supply, use, and governance, incorporating the perspectives of various water users.

Recognizing the need for data-driven decision-making, the UNDP Accelerator Lab in Kenya initiated the development of a dynamic Collaborative Map to support evidence-based decision-making for water infrastructure projects in Tana River County. The development of the collaborative map involved a wide variety of stakeholders including a group of multidisciplinary students from Pwani University and Kenya Water Institute. This engagement with students provided them with an opportunity to build work experience while working on real life projects. At the end of the project, students were expected to share their experiences through blogs. In total, 21 students have shared blogs detailing their experiences and key takeaways from this project. UNDP is thus seeking the services of a highly experienced graphic designer with advanced skills in designing publications to consolidate the blogs and package them in a visually captivating focus note. It is our hope that these 21 stories/experiences will positively influence other students in higher education institutions as they look for opportunities that provide practical work experience and impact their role as changemakers.
