OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is a specialized Category-I institute that works on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 Target 7 towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world by developing programmes and products that promote social and emotional learning, innovate digital pedagogies, and empower the youth.
UNESCO MGIEP ‘s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions draw on the science of learning and aim to build intellectual and emotional intelligence among learners through innovative pedagogies.
The primary role of the Senior National Project Officer (Communications) is to lead the communications team towards increasing the Institute’s brand visibility and outreach globally across its internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent will serve as the focal point in providing comprehensive expertise in maximizing global visibility, awareness, and support of the Institute’s Missions.
Main duties and responsibilities
Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO MGIEP, and working closely with Programme and Project teams, and the Institute Partnerships officer, the Senior National Project Officer (Communications) would undertake the following responsibilities:

1. Implement global communications strategies and activities
- Responsible for overseeing the communications department and devising the Institute’s global communications strategy for media relations, publications, web, and digital media, including social media, email marketing, podcast marketing, and others with the objective of increasing the Institute’s brand impact across its internal and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for implementing the Institute’s global communications strategy by increasing traditional media footprint globally and onboarding managing other strategic partnerships (i.e. brand ambassadors, media partnerships).
- Advise and provide support to programmes to increase course outreach by devising appropriate communications strategies to reach targeted stakeholders across a range of communications channels.
- Collaborate with UNESCO Headquarters, Field Offices, UNESCO Institutes, and UN agencies at a global level for a greater impact on the Institute’s work.

2. Media relations and branding
- Increase the Institute’s footprint through the placement of Op-Eds, podcasts, interviews, and press releases in CAT A and CAT B media outlets globally.
- Manage and moderate Institute’s in-person and virtual PR conferences and other media/event interactions.
- Prepare material for press briefings and interviews; draft press statements and press releases as necessary.
- Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with local and international journalists.
- Design and develop new media outlets/assets to increase brand visibility i.e. podcasts.
- Upgrade and design new digital brand collateral to increase outreach i.e. brand video, brochures, articles, newsletters and reports, and brand merchandise.

3. Publications
- Serve as Institute’s Publications Points person to ensure compliance with the Institute’s branding guidelines and UNESCO Headquarters rules/regulations and guidelines.
- Manage the editorial, design, and development of the Institute’s flagship publication, The Blue DOT, including organizing the Editorial Committee, ensuring compliance of authors, and overseeing the production of the digital version and social media promotions.
- Manage the production of advocacy and communication materials including publications, videos, Facebook posts, tweets, social media packages, greeting cards, souvenirs, etc. in accordance with UNESCO standards and guidelines.
- Oversee the editorial and production process of the Institute’s statutory publications including:
- Governing Board Report
- Annual Report
- Executive Committee Report
- Other Statutory Publications such as Medium-Term Strategy, Theory of Change, etc.
4. Events
- Manage Institute-wide communications activities for Institute-wide events (World Youth Conference; TECH) + launches of publications (ISEE Assessment, SECA, Digital Readiness Index).
- Organize Distinguished and Ahinsa lectures in partnership with Permanent Delegations + other strategic partners.
5. Programmatic Advice, Advocacy, and Marketing
- Provide advice to programmatic staff to increase outreach and impact of their work.
- Manage communications activities for launch and outreach for capacity-building efforts, research programmes, policy advocacy, and partnerships.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Journalism, Mass Communication, International Relations and other related fields.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications. At least 2 out of the 7 years at the international level in communications, brand management, public information, journalism, or a related field is required.
- Experience in publications management, producing multimedia content for digital platforms.
- Experience in planning and managing projects/programmes in the area of communication and information.
- Experience in leading and managing a team.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Accreditation in journalism.
Work Experience
- Experience in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, XD, InDesign, Photoshop).
Skills and Competencies
- Understanding of social and emotional learning.
Languages:
- Working knowledge of another UNESCO language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish).

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan, etc.
The approximate Net Pensionable annual starting salary for this post is INR 5066964 subject to the deduction of pension, medical insurance, etc.
