The objective of this assignment is to support further implementation of the Climate Box programme providing technical advice related to climate education and recommendations on education, knowledge dissemination and outreach components of the programme. The IPSA holder will liaise with the Climate Box partners in the 8 beneficiary countries, including teachers, educational experts and Ministries of education to develop and implement – in collaboration with local stakeholders – training and engagement activities for teachers, educational specialists and the youth.
- The IPSA holder will analyze existing Climate Box materials, including training and capacity building systems and materials previously developed under the programme in 2014-2023 (to be provided by UNDP and respective beneficiary countries).
- The IPSA holder will prepare updated training materials on the updated Climate Box programme for primary and secondary school teachers and educational specialists taking into account the most recent Climate Box content update. This includes:
- preparing a draft concept of the training (objectives and expected outcomes, format, agenda, detailed plan for each module);
- conducting consultations on the draft outline with UNDP Country offices and local national consultants in the beneficiary countries, consolidate inputs and comments;
- development of materials for crosscutting regional modules that are similar for all countries (presentations, questions, interactive exercises)
- The IPSA holder will co-facilitate training sessions for teachers and educational experts in participating countries (in person/online) with the support of the local teams and prepare reports after those events.
- He/she will also support organization of a series of expert and stakeholder consultations, workshops and webinars to present Climate Box in participating countries, including development of the concept on events, agenda, coordination and facilitation of events and preparation of reports after those events.
- The IPSA holder will also lead the development and organization of two school contests for best climate projects and thematic summer schools on climate and clean energy (one before 30 June 2024 and another before 15 December 2024)
- He/she will support cooperation across educational institutions, teachers, and students in the beneficiary countries and organization of two regional events (one before 30 June 2024 and another before 15 December 2024)
- The IPSA holder will also provide oversight over the development of at least 10 video lessons and webinars for the publication on the Climate Box website (to be developed by the participating countries) and support the development of least three thematic annexes/supplemental materials to the Climate Box and “augmented reality” elements (guidance and recommendations, review and feedback for developers)
- The IPSA holder will support efforts to improve the Climate Box website (particular review of the Teachers Space section) and development of the mobile application by preparing recommendations, testing user-friendliness, providing feedback to the developers.
- He/she will act as a regional focal point for education specialists from participating countries collecting best practices and advising on Climate Box application in all participating (including new countries), co-facilitating regional calls, meetings and knowledge exchange through online platforms.
Institutional Arrangement
Regional Climate Education Specialist will be home-based with international missions to project sites. The Education Specialist will work under coordination of the Climate Box Project Manager and will work as part of the Climate and Disaster Resilience Team under the Regional Team Leader, CCDR. The Education Specialist will engage regularly with the Project Manager, Project Specialist and Project Associate that will form the project team. The Consultant will also work with UNDP Country Offices in beneficiary countries.

- Master’s degree in education, environment science, sustainable development, natural resources management, or other relevant field is required
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 additional years of relevant experience can be taken into consideration in lieu of Master`s degre
- Minimum of 5 years (with Master´s degree) or 7 years (with Bachelor´s degree) of relevant professional experience in the area of education
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Russian with excellent writing skills
- Knowledge of language(s) of the implementation countries is an advantage
Required Skills:
- Proven experience in writing and editing educational materials and knowledge products is an asset
- At least two years of experience with designing or implementing school educational projects on climate change is an asset
Desired Skills:
- Proven experience in developing training materials in the educational field.
- Proven experience in building capacities of educational professionals/institutions or conducting training sessions for teachers (both, online and face-to face).
- At least 3 years of professional experience and working contacts in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia region is an asset
