How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Country office Development and Support Unit (CODAS), Outreach and Engagement, this post will be responsible for:

For the rest of the world group of Country Offices and Regions, where relevant and needed, lead and support fundraising planning and development:

  • Lead and coordinate the strategic development of the private sector plans for the fundraising units.
  • Lead and coordinate the creation of a cluster and the merging of existing fundraising markets into the cluster. Define the cluster accountabilities.

Give all-around support to the fundraising markets in these countries:

  • Identify innovative fundraising activities for testing in emerging and frontier fundraising markets.
  • Analyze the competitive environment and make recommendations to senior management related to new opportunities within the countries and regions of focus, including unforeseen private sector fundraising opportunities requiring timely action.
  • Formulate market research programmes for selected countries and provides guidelines for market testing and results analysis.
  • Lead on the development of specific marketing tools for selected countries and regions that enable practical support.
  • When required, directly implement regional and country private sector fundraising activities through the countries.
  • Advise on the optimal fundraising portfolio of these countries and the strategies required to maximize opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the PSFR performance of the specified Country Offices identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This includes detailed analysis of annual PSFR results by channel, income type and comparison to long term targets.
  • Support knowledge management through the stimulation and dynamic exchange of knowledge across fundraising markets and drive the application of global best practice by the specified Country Offices. Stay in touch with the latest thinking and trends in PSFR and contributes to UNICEF’s global fundraising expertise.
  • In relation to PSFR, ensure a risk management approach is taken by the specified Country Offices, in particular compliance with corporate due diligence processes.
  • Ensure adequate emergency fundraising preparedness plans are in place in specified Country Offices and that countries support the maximization of ORE fundraising.
  • Keep in touch with industry experts and keep track of competitor activities.

Lead and support funding fundraising:

  • Lead on the investment applications and reporting. This includes advising on applications for and the allocation of the Dynamo Fund and the preparation of investment proposals.
  • Coordinate the countries’ financial reporting and ensure their timely submission.

Connect:

  • In conjunction with the CODAS team, ensure that fundraising plans are aligned with global priorities and maximize opportunities for income growth.
  • Estimate the support needs that they have and facilitate the support to be given.
  • Work with the private sector fundraising specialists to ensure that appropriate support is provided to specified Country Offices.
  • Leverage support across PFP teams, and in close collaboration with regional offices, drive the implementation of key enablers and remove policy and other technical barriers for PSFR operations in country offices.
  • Serve as country and regional liaison person between PFP and national staff on all matters concerning private sector fundraising activities within selected countries and regions. Facilitate resolution of problems which hinder private sector fundraising opportunities. Based on such issues recommend policy procedures through senior management for final decision.
  • Work closely with the RSCs, align mechanism for coordinating the work, division of tasks and accountabilities.

Capacity building:

  • Help build, in close collaboration with PFP, ROs, DHR, the capacity of UNICEF leaders (Regional Directors, Deputy Regional Directors, Representatives, Deputy Representatives, etc.) and technical staff, to be able to take full advantage of working with the private sector in their respective contexts, and drive key accountabilities and responsibilities related to PSFR.

DELIVERABLES:

Ongoing operational support to ECARO, ESARO, MENA, and WCARO as agreed in a yearly plan with the respective region. Plans are to be finalized by the end of January 2024.

Contributing to establishing 2024 Private Sector Plans for ECARO, ESARO, MENA, and WCARO, finalized by mid-December 2024.

Working Place:

  • Geneva, Switzerland is the official duty station. (Flexible work arrangements may be applied if there is a need.

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: marketing, business administration, management, or social sciences.
  • Alternatively, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of eight years relevant work experience in fundraising, marketing, brand management, management consulting, and/or strategy, out of which a minimum of five years with fundraising and management responsibility in a leading non-profit organization is required.
  • International fundraising experience and those with experience as a Fundraising/Marketing Director with responsibility for significant (i.e., multi-million $) annual income targets and expenditure budgets and for a broad fundraising portfolio i.e., multiple income channels including pledge, corporate, legacies, major donors, and foundations is an asset.
  • Experience managing a significant fundraising channel is an asset.
  • Prior strategy/management experience working with a global organization, especially working on projects of similar scale, involving multiple users and groups.
  • Ability to shape marketing campaigns from initial strategy to implementation and post-launch optimization.
  • Three years of direct experience managing campaign delivery for multi-channel campaigns is required.
  • Knowledge of current best practices in digital engagement and marketing strategy is an asset.
  • Knowledge of working with office applications, planning tools, and specifically, modern applications is required.
  • UN/UNICEF experience is an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
