Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Located within the UN Environment Division of Economy, the Resources & Markets Branch (UNEP-RMB) seeks to conserve the environment, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development by enhancing the capacity of governments, businesses, and civil society to integrate environmental considerations into economic, trade, and financial policies and practices in accordance with the partnership and integrated policy-making approaches of sustainable development. The UN Environment Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) (www.unepfi.org) is a unique global partnership between UN Environment and about 350 banks, insurers and investors from around the world. UNEP FI works closely with its signatories to the UNEP FI Statements of Environmental Commitment, and a range of partner organizations to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its industry commissions, thematic advisory groups and regional activities, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realize the adoption of sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution operations.

The UNEP FI Internship for Climate Change Programme Support is for six (6) months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities:
In line with UNEP FI work programme and under the direct supervision the Signatory Relations, working closely with the Latin America & Caribbean Regional Coordinators, the intern will support the implementation and consolidation of UNEP FI outreach & co-ordination plans across the region. The intern is expected to:
• Assist in the organization of the Regional Roundtables and related events to be held in 2023
• Assist in writing country and members’ profiles, monitoring reporting as well as on establishing the key areas of expertise of supporting institutions.
• Support membership surveys across the region.
• Assist with identifying financial institutions for outreach in line with banking, insurance and investment membership strategies.
• Assist with preparation of sustainable finance events in the region (webinars, training and awareness-raising activities);
• Assist with development of public communication through, for example, UNEP FI newsletter, website, case studies, etc;
• Update the contact database for UNEP FI Signatories including the areas of active engagement with UNEP FI, if and as relevant;
• Support the Regional Coordinators and Signatory Relations Manager on any other matters as necessary.
• Assist in writing, editing, translating, proofreading and preparing communications for members.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Bachelor’s in finance, economics, development studies, business management, communications, marketing, data management is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.
