RESPONSIBILITIES

Generic responsibilities

  1. Ensure daily planning, implementation and monitoring of relevant projects and activities in accordance with proposals, strategies, contractual commitments, donor requirements and the best interest of targeted communities.
  2. Strengthen coordination between affected communities, government authorities and humanitarian partners through active engagement in coordination mechanisms at the request of the education coordinator.
  3. Provide the education coordinator with technical information related to the implementation of education activities based on daily experience of program execution.
  4. Ensure accurate and transparent record keeping relating to project implementation in all aspects related to finances, logistics and program monitoring.          
  5. Support the Education Coordinator to ensure high technical quality, contextual relevance and integration in project implementation.
  6. Regularly share key lessons learned with the education coordinator. 
  7. Support educational technical assistants in the planning and execution of their work, as well as their technical abilities.
  8. Ensure positive representation of NRC in any external engagement, including in the implementation of daily activities.
  9. Promote the rights of children, refugees and other vulnerable affected populations throughout the project cycle.
  10. Ensure compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures.

Specific responsibilities 

  1. Ensure daily planning, implementation and monitoring of  emergency education projects and activities in accordance with proposals, strategies, contractual commitments, donor requirements and the best interests of targeted communities.
  2. Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, work closely with internal NRC colleagues to ensure effective and timely coordination of financial, logistical and security procedures.
  3. Report to the Education Coordinator on all activities related to education programming in emergencies, as well as other appropriate tasks assigned by the Coordinator.
  4. Contribute to maintaining positive relationships with local education stakeholders (including government authorities, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, partner organizations and agencies and community structures).
  5. Visit project sites frequently to monitor project activities, provide field guidance and support, and assess new and current needs.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports in accordance with internal NRC requirements and relevant donor requirements, as requested by the Education Coordinator.
  7. Provide ongoing support to Education Technical Assistants and act as Education Coordinator in their absence.
  8. Ensure that vulnerable demographic groups, including girls, boys, children with disabilities, displaced children and children from host communities, are considered in all education programming in emergencies.
  9. Coordinate with other NRC technical sectors (core competencies) to develop and implement integrated programs to best meet the needs of the communities receiving support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional experience and skills: 

  • At least 2 years of experience in an area of ​​technical expertise in humanitarian contexts
  • Experience working in complex and unstable contexts
  • Documented results related to position responsibilities
  • Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken
  • Good knowledge of English or French, written and spoken
  • Understanding of the context of Chad and Sudan, particularly eastern Chad and the Darfur region of Sudan. 
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse populations in sensitive contexts.
