How can you make a difference?

Strategic Planning and Relationship Building:

  • Support in the forging of strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including UNICEF staff, government entities, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to advance UNICEF’s sustainability and climate change agenda
  • Support in facilitating effective liaisons with programme participants to support collaboration and communication within UNICEF and with external partners, enhancing the CEED agenda.

Programme Development and Mainstreaming:

  • Support mainstreaming sustainability and climate action into UNICEF’s programming at headquarters, regional, and country office levels.
  • Encourage integrated programming approaches that recognize the interconnectivity of climate change, environmental degradation, and disaster risks with other UNICEF sectors such as education, health, and social protection.

Operational Support and Coordination:

  • Identify staffing and resource needs to propel the CEED agenda and draft Terms of Reference (TORs) and contracts for related programming and advocacy initiatives.
  • Support in the coordination with various UNICEF offices to implement global CEED programmes, ensuring cohesive action and policy implementation.

Financial Oversight and Reporting:

  • Oversee and monitor the CEED budget, confirming alignment with UNICEF’s administrative and monitoring processes.
  • Regularly update management on the budget status and financial requirements to maintain transparency and ensure continued funding for key initiatives.

Knowledge Management and Capacity Building:

  • Support the curation and updating of knowledge repositories with current research, data, and implementation reports to inform programming and maintain a repository of best practices.
  • Support the development of content and facilitate training to strengthen the capacity of UNICEF staff on climate and environmental issues.
  • Support the internal and external communication processes to further the CEED agenda and promote cross-network collaboration.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in climate change, environmental science, engineering, disaster management, International Development, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy or other relevant disciplines is required
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in areas related to programme management, sustainability, international development, disaster management, environmental issues, public policy, social policy, and children’s health and wellbeing is required
  • Specific experience in programming/policy implementation, monitoring, review and evaluation related to climate change, environment or disaster risk reduction is required preferably in a developing country context
  • Knowledge on climate, environment, and DRR impacts, assessments, and adaptation solutions required
  • Familiarity with children’s rights in the context of climate change, environmental degradation and disaster risk reduction
  • Experience in developing tools, and providing training, particularly as part of a global/regional role in support of other country offices will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working on CEED issues within UNICEF or other international development agencies is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
