Mission and objectives
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in West & Central Africa (OCHA ROWCA) mobilizes & coordinates humanitarian assistance to people in need

Context
The management of data relating to crises, affected people and humanitarian activities enables us to respond more effectively to needs. However, organizations are facing increasingly complex challenges. The Data Responsibility work focuses on supporting the adoption of data responsibility within OCHA and the wider sector. Responsible data management improves coordination and collaboration between organizations, and can strengthen trust between humanitarian actors and affected populations.

To this end, the IASC Operational Guidance on the subject was published in 2021, and revised in 2023. Their translation will help maximize their use.

Translation and Interpretation

Task description
OCHA’s regional office for West and Central Africa in Senegal is looking for 1 online volunteer to help us translate documents on data accountability in humanitarian action from English into Arabic. To this end, online volunteers are asked to :

– translate a 44-page document
– Ensure that the translation is aligned with existing IASC guidelines.
– Ensure that the translation is concise, in line with our communication guidelines and suitable for the target audience.

Selected online volunteers will receive the document in the original language, along with guidance on the target audience and other documents to which the translation needs to be aligned.

Requirements
Required experience
Candidates must be native speakers of Arabic and fluent in English. Familiarity with technical terms related to liability or data protection will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset.
