Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. With the spirit of ‘leaving no one behind’, UNV promotes and advocates for disability inclusion through deploying Persons with Disabilities to serve with our UN partners.

In that regard, the UNV is organizing an information session to raise awareness on volunteering opportunities for Persons with Disabilities within the United Nations system, their engagement and contribution in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Thailand.

To that end, the UNV Regional Office in Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is seeking the support from Online Volunteer with professional experience in Sign Language interpretation to support Information Sharing Session for PWD in Thailand

SPECIAL NOTICE
This is an unpaid online assignment. At the end of the assignment, successful applicant of this assignment will be rewarded with certificate issued by UNV and will gain better understanding on the contribution of digital volunteerism through various spectrum to the SDGs.

Task type
Translation and Interpretation

Task description
The main purpose of this online assignment is to provide competent sing language interpreting services to support Information Sharing Session for PWD in Thailand. Specifically, Online Volunteers are expected to:
– Provide clear and accurate American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf and/or hard of hearing staff in the event.
– Utilizes strong expressive and receptive interpreting skills, interpersonal relationships, and cultural competencies to ensure effective communication in diverse audiences.

Requirements
Required experience
– Fluent in Thai language (native speaker level)
– Must have knowledge of educational vocabulary and strong understanding of ASL and deaf culture
– Have access to the required Meeting Software (Zoom Meeting)
