Job Description:

  1. Portfolio & Client Relationship Management – 15%
    1. Perform all responsibilities of “Focal Point” for Quest’s clients, as assigned, as per Quest’s Operations Manual.
    2. Fully implement all aspects of Quest’s Operations Manual.
    3. Utilize strong relational skills in order to handle client interaction and maintain healthy relationships.
    4. Communicate with clients frequently and effectively in English and local languages.
    5. Ensure client satisfaction and proactively address any and all client concerns.
    6. Actively contribute towards engagements managed by superiors, reducing their workload as much as possible.
  2. Personnel Supervision – 10%
    1. Help to hire and effectively train lower level staff, continuously instilling and reinforcing Quest’s core values.
    2. Provide technical assistance to lower-level staff by directing and reviewing work and providing assistance as needed.
    3. Provide continuous feedback to lower-level staff including assisting with quarterly performance reviews if and as requested by the FOM.
    4. Actively contribute to the professional and career growth of lower-level staff.
    5. Supervise and train the staff of Quest’s clients, as appropriate, and contribute to their professional development.
  3. Technical Work – 75%
    1. Create systems and processes for all work, documenting them in Quest’s Manuals or in client process documents.
    2. Create and implement new Chart of Accounts and QuickBooks company files.
    3. Design internal controls that balance the need for both accountability and efficiency.
    4. Develop cash management systems including cash planning, cash handling, cash counts and reconciliations, and cashflow reporting.
    5. Customize finance manuals to reflect the policies and procedures needed by the respective client.
    6. Create payroll systems that enable timely and accurate payment of salaries with the proper tax withholdings.
    7. Prepare and submit timely, accurate, and actionable financial reports for Quest, clients, donors, and government ministries without reminders from others.
    8. Prepare written narrative reports and memos in English.
    9. Advise clients on how to comply with the tax laws of Afghanistan and prepare and file client tax returns as needed.
    10. Review client accounting records and help clean up the books.
    11. Training clients in the various skills necessary to keep their financial system running properly.
    12. Work as an outsourced Finance Manager for clients as needed.
    13. Develop structural and customized solutions for client problems though evaluation of the big picture and thorough analysis of possible options.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, or a related field and 3-9 ACCA papers passed
3-5 years of experience in accounting, taxation, or financial management
Seeks long-term career as a professional accountant
Loyal, honest, hardworking, and willing to learn
Professional in manners and appearance
Dari: great reading, writing, and verbal skills required
English: good reading, writing, and verbal skills required
Pashto:  preferred but not required
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
Strong working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word
Knowledge of Afghan tax law
Strong organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of competing priorities and multiple deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
