About Afghan Bureau Collaboration Office:

Afghan Bureau Collaboration Office (ABCO) is a national Afghan NGO established in 1993. ABCO is operating in all regions of Afghanistan with a mission of national Food Security and Livelihood Resilience Building. Job Description:

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and passionate Agronomist to join our team in Afghanistan. The Agronomist will play a crucial role in supporting agricultural initiatives, providing technical expertise, and promoting sustainable farming practices in rural communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agronomy, experience working in agricultural development projects, and a commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers in Afghanistan.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and expertise to farmers on crop production, soil management, water conservation, pest and disease control, and other agronomic practices.
  2. Training and Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training programs for farmers and agricultural extension workers to enhance their knowledge and skills in modern farming techniques and technologies.
  3. Crop Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct assessments of crops and agricultural systems to identify challenges, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Monitor crop performance, yield, and quality to ensure optimal productivity.
  4. Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of latest developments in agronomy and agricultural research. Identify innovative approaches, tools, and technologies to improve agricultural productivity, resilience, and sustainability in Afghanistan.
  5. Community Engagement: Collaborate with local communities, farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and relevant stakeholders to understand their needs, preferences, and challenges. Foster strong partnerships and participatory approaches in project implementation.
  6. Project Management: Assist  in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of agricultural development projects. Ensure project activities are carried out effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with donor requirements and organizational standards.
  7. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret agronomic data to inform decision-making, evaluate project impact, and identify best practices. Prepare reports, case studies, and presentations documenting project outcomes and lessons learned.
  8. Networking and Representation: Represent the organization in meetings, workshops, conferences, and other events related to agriculture and rural development after consultation with PM. Build strategic relationships with government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant partners.

 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in agronomic research, extension, or development  projects.
  • Deep understanding of agricultural practices, challenges, and opportunities in Afghanistan .
  • Proficiency in crop management, soil science, irrigation, and integrated pest management.
  • Experience in conducting training, workshops, and capacity building activities for farmers and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to collect, analyze, and interpret agronomic data.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Fluency in Pashto, Dari, English and Uzbiki language is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, participatory approaches, and gender sensitivity in development work.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging and dynamic environments, with a high level of cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Prior experience working with NGOs, international organizations, or donors is desirable.
