This position is located with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Kabul, within the Development Pillar of UNAMA under the direct supervision of the Head of Resident Coordinator Office and additional supervision by the UN Durable Solutions Adviser.

Responsibilities

The Associate Coordination Officer will carry out the following duties: • Supports the UNAMA’s Development Pillar’s coordination activities at national and subnational level for the implementation of the United Nations Strategic Framework for Afghanistan (UNSFA) and durable solutions programming. Liaises with UNAMA components, UN agencies and NGO partners, relevant departments of the Government, international donor community, and national civil society to facilitate and coordinate support for UN and non-UN entities led Basic Human Needs (BHNs) and Durable Solutions (DS) priorities and activities. • Supports Basic Human Needs (BHN) coordination groups such as the Durable Solutions Working Group at national and sub-national levels with organization of meetings, taking minutes, planning and organising capacity building and learning events including contribution in developing training contents, information management and implementation of action points. • Monitors, analyses, and reports on BHNs including DS programme performance and impact. • Drafts routine and ad hoc correspondence, including talking points, situation reports/briefing notes, updates and contributions to the reports of the Secretary-General, etc. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Ensures that requirements, background information used for data analysis are documented. • Other related tasks as required.

Education

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in international relations, public administration, management, economics, development studies or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating programme activities in the United Nations or leading international NGOs is essential. Expertise in development programming, in particular in the area of Durable Solutions, and a well-established track record of substantive work with IDPs and other displaced populations facilitating their solutions pathways including reintegration work with Afghan refugees returning back to their country is required. Willingness to regularly travel to field locations of UN activity presence.
Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. For the national languages, fluency in Dari and Pasto (both oral and written) is required.
Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

This position is temporarily available until 31 December 2024. • While this temporary appointment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. • This temporary job opening may be limited to “internal candidates,” who have been recruited through a competitive examination administered according to staff rule 4.16 or staff selection process including the review of a central review body established according to staff rule 4.15. • Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply. United Nations Considerations
