Mission and objectives
The United Nations in Bangladesh supports the Government and partners to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of advancing prosperity for all people of Bangladesh. The UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026 is the single most important planning tool for coordinating the UN’s development activities in Bangladesh. The UN Resident Coordinator is responsible for coordinating these activities, which have five strategic priorities: Strategic Priority 1: Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development Strategic Priority 2: Equitable Human Development and Well Being Strategic Priority 3: Sustainable, Healthy and Resilient Environment Strategic Priority 4: Transformative, Participatory and Inclusive Governance Strategic Priority 5: Gender Equality and Eliminating Gender-Based Violence The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) drives forward implementation of the UNSDCF in partnership across all UN agencies and with the Government of Bangladesh, civil society, private sector and a vast array of stakeholders.

Context
In its supporting role to Governments globally, the UN is scaling up its data and visualization capabilities to aid with the tracking and implementation of the SDGs. Just six years out from the year 2030, the UN in Bangladesh is working to step up its contribution by deepening the understanding of the impact of UN development programming, and ensuring transparency and visibility of UN activities that contribute to sustainable development. This assignment comes at a critical time as the UN in Bangladesh embarks on an evaluation of its existing UNSDCF, and the development of a new Cooperation Framework which will be aligned with the Government’s own planning and the graduation of Bangladesh from Least Developed Country status in 2026.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office, RCO, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Support the data gathering and reporting activities of the RCO across all UN partners in the UN Country Team Under the guidance of the Head of Office, conduct data analysis on thematic priorities for the UN in Bangladesh, including financing for the SDGs, jobs and social protection, climate and disaster risk reduction, digital transformation and gender and youth. • Contribute to team brainstorming and Editorial Meetings with ideas for stories, publications and visuals. • Working across the Development Coordination Team and Communications Team, and under the guidance of the Head of Office, support the development of infographics and visuals that use data and information to tell the story of the impact that the UN in Bangladesh is making through its programmes and provide regular content for website, publications, social media and other platforms. • Participate in meetings and engagements with external stakeholders including civil society, private sector, youth and women’s groups to gather content and stories about the impact of the UN’s work. • Support thematic focal points in the RCO team to track and report on priority themes through participation in working groups on climate, youth, gender and other themes. • On behalf of the RCO, act as focal point to track global and regional policy around the SDGs, six transition areas and four engine rooms to accelerate development, as well as the Summit of the Future, with a particular focus on policies for digital transformation. • Support the RCO’s engagements with Government of Bangladesh planning and reporting, including the 9th 5-year plan and Voluntary National Review of SDG progress in 2025. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:- • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
