Mission and objectives
UNAMA was established in 2002 as a Political/ Peacebuilding Mission, exceptionally) directed and supported by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).
Context
The primary objective of the project is to provide a unique opportunity for national females to be recruited as NUNVs and in view of the current barriers to their recruitment as national staff. This will allow them to gain invaluable UN work experience and build their confidence, empowering them to apply for UNAMA vacancies when they arise and ultimately be eligible for short listing. Simultaneously, UNAMA will have a ready pool of talented national females who can seriously be considered for recruitment into national staff positions. This will in turn facilitate progress to improve the gross national staff gender imbalance. With focus on a more balanced national staffing ratio, greater inclusion of national female staff, and encouraging their professional growth and development, the project’s objectives contributes to DPPA’s Strategic Plan 2020-2022.
