Org. Setting and Reporting
This position located in the Communications and Public Information Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classied in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The Broadcast Technology Technician reports to the Broadcast Technology Officer or Chief of Radio of Communications and Public Information Section. The incumbent provides support for the preparation and development of public information broadcast technology projects and interacts with the Chief of unit/section, and Broadcast officers.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Broadcast Technology Technician will carry out the following duties: • Installs, operates and maintains a diverse range of analogue and digital broadcast technology equipment, including broadcast consoles and other studio equipment, computer assisted radio automation systems, tools and software, studio transmitter links, FM, MW and SW transmitter systems (30W to 300kW), remote broadcasting equipment including satellite interconnect system, transmitter remote monitoring and control systems, and other associated ancillary systems and support equipment. • Provides support for the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, upgrade and management of all specialized public information broadcast technology assets and related technical systems such as digital radio broadcast consoles that utilise Audio over IP (AoIP) technologies (e.g. Wheatstone and Telos Alliance Axia), to ensure a seamless transition to digital audio and adoption of the new technology. • Provides support in analysis, design and deployment of RCS Zetta radio automation systems. • Provides support for the development of specifications for procurement of equipment; evaluates vendor proposals, performs tests and recommends selection of broadcast technology and related multi-media equipment. • Establishes procedures for the operation and maintenance of the Mission’s radio broadcast technology assets and studio equipment. • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Certification/diploma or other supplemental academic qualifications or training in Electronics, Systems Engineering, or Telecommunications and Information Systems is required.
Work Experience
At least six (6) years of working experience in the planning and installation of complex telecommunications equipment, networks and information systems is required. Experience providing services in the field of telecommunications or related area to or in a field operation of the United Nations common system or comparable international organization is desirable. Experience in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable. Experience in the operation and maintenance of large-scale telecommunications systems is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

• This position is temporarily available an initial period of six (months), possibility of extension subject to availability of funds.
