About Organization
The largest humanitarian organization in the world battling hunger is the United Nations World Food Programme. WFP’s goal is to contribute to the world’s effort to eradicate hunger during our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works in every country to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the most vulnerable and impoverished people, especially women and children, have access to the wholesome food they require.
Based in Cairo, Egypt, the WFP’s Regional Bureau for the Middle East and Northern Africa (RBC) offers strategic direction, policy/technical support, and oversight to WFP operations and activities in 16 nations, including Algeria, Armenia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, State of Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Yemen. The goal of these national offices is to provide aid to about 30 million, or one-third of all WFP clients, in some of the most pressing humanitarian crises of our day. RBC is also involved in the WFP’s “Changing Lives” initiative, working with national governments and local communities to enhance nutrition, livelihoods, school feeding, social protection, catastrophe risk reduction, and other resilience-building and development-supporting initiatives.
