The American India Foundation Trust is registered as a public charitable trust in India. And is committed to catalyzing social and economic change in India and building a lasting bridge between the United States and India through high-impact interventions in education, livelihoods, public health, and leadership development. Working closely with local communities to develop and test innovative solutions and with governments to create and scale sustainable impact.

III. Scope of Work/ Key Deliverables:

About Banyan Impact Fellowship (BIF):

Banyan Impact Fellowship (BIF) is a unique, immersive bi-national volunteer service program with strategic importance in the US-India corridor. By facilitating exchange and collaboration between young professionals from India and the US, the program aims to shape the next generation of leaders committed to positive and sustainable change and to create a lasting US-India relationship by broadening the existing constituency of future leaders, civil society, and other stakeholders; all in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals.

Through its emphasis on a service-leadership model, the bilateral program places young professionals from the US and India in service with communities and organizations across the two countries for mutual learning, capacity building, and leadership development in support of social justice. Fellows work on projects closely linked to Sustainable Development Goals and create sustainable impact through service and fieldwork across diverse thematic areas that have expanded in scope over the years and include education, public health, livelihoods, social inclusion, minority rights, Dalit and tribal rights, climate justice, LGBTQ+ rights, gender, arts, sports, CSR, among others.

Since 2001, AIF has selected, trained, and supported 539 Fellows and 216 partner organizations across 25 Indian states to scale impact, catalyze change, and build the next generation of social change makers. Starting 2022, amongst other innovations to the program, we will add 3 “Senior Fellows” serving as mentors to the cohort as well as 5 Indian Fellows serving in the U.S. for the first time.
AIF has renewed its commitment to this unique and strategic programme in the US-India corridor for the next 10 years. This long-term commitment allows the programme to leverage new forms of partnerships for learning and impact which was not possible until now. Our long-term (10 years) commitment to the programme offers an opportunity for a knowledge organization to leverage this programme investment by AIF to create, capture and disseminate new knowledge to relevant eco-systems (for example, in the international education, volunteering space). With a partnership like this, AIF benefits from better collection and dissemination of evidence and learning emanating from the programme over the next 10 years, which improves programme design and impact over the 10 year period.

For further details about the program, fellow profiles and placements, visit our website:https://aif.org/fellowship/

Program Goal:
The program’s goal is to strengthen the U.S.-India bond by investing in the leadership development of socially-minded change makers, chosen from the U.S. and India combined and deploying them within civil society organizations in India to create sustainable and scalable change.

The Fellowship program satisfies the bridge-building mandate of AIF by remaining focused on three pillars:
Training future leaders through service and immersion in grassroots development in India,
Fostering cultural understanding between Indians and Americans in order to build friendship, collaboration, and innovation now and in the long term, and
Building capacity in the Indian development sector by partnering with civil society organizations to host Fellows for innovative projects that further AIF’s mission in India.
