The International Rescue Committee (IRC) was founded in 1933 by the renowned physicist Albert Einstein. The IRC’s mission is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are destroyed by conflict and disaster survive, recover, and take control of their futures.

The IRC implements programs to promote durable solutions for displaced persons, refugees, and host populations through public health, sanitation, shelter, rehabilitation, and education projects. The IRC has been working with refugees since 1933 and operates in 40 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the United States through a resettlement support program. The IRC is an organization committed to freedom, human dignity, and self-reliance. This commitment is reflected in quality resettlement assistance, comprehensive emergency relief, rehabilitation, and advocacy for refugees.

In Burkina Faso, the IRC launched its first phase of emergency response programming in the town of Djibo in April 2019, primarily focusing on WASH activities. Subsequently, the IRC expanded its interventions in the protection, health, nutrition, economic recovery & development, governance, and recently in Signpost. The organization has a main office in Ouagadougou, bases in Ouahigouya (Yaadga Region), Dori (Liptako Region), Fada (Gourma Region), and sub-bases in Djibo (Djelgodji) and Séguénéga (Yaadga).

To strengthen its team, IRC-BF is recruiting a Driver for the Fada N’gourma office.

JOB OBJECTIVES/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Under the supervision of the Supply Chain Officer, the driver will be responsible for the driving and regular maintenance of the vehicle according to the rules of the art and in compliance with IRC policies and the code of conduct.  

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The main functions and responsibilities of this position, but not limited to, are to:

  • Safe and efficient transportation of IRC personnel and equipment.
  • Regular maintenance and servicing of vehicles and their accessories.
  • Representing IRC in a professional manner,

  • Any other task requested by the supervisor to ensure the smooth progress of the program

HIERARCHICAL POSITIONING

Line Manager:  Supply Chain Officer

Position under direct supervision:  N/A

Supervision technique: Officer Supply Chain

Other internal and/or external contacts:  IRC Staff

Minimum Qualifications:

Education :

  • Have a minimum CEPE level (know how to read, write and express yourself well in French);

Experiences: 

  • Desirable skills: CAP in mechanics or equivalent;
  • Valid driving license in the category appropriate to the vehicle to be driven for IRC;
  • At least two (02) years of experience as a professional driver;
  • Having at least one (01) year of experience in a similar position within humanitarian or development organizations would be an asset;
  • Good knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of a vehicle;
  • Ability to use common means of communication (mobile phone) and knowledge (or ability to learn quickly) of the use of HF, VHF and satellite communication equipment;
  • Safe and defensive driving skills are an asset;
  • Good knowledge of the national road network, particularly the Eastern region;
  • Residing in the town of Fada N’Gourma would be an asset;
  • Great organizational and precision skills, demonstrate discipline, honesty, flexibility, demonstrate the ability to manage priorities;
  • The driver must demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects positively on themselves and IRC.
