Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.
The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.
AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.
AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.
Job Description:
- Increase the detection of TB cases, especially in refugee camps.
- Assistance and cooperation for tuberculosis patients among internally displaced persons.
- Strengthening, collaborating, and developing a joint plan for tracking and implementing tuberculosis activities with the provincial tuberculosis team.
- Liaising and coordinating with health volunteers in the refugee camp regarding tuberculosis activities.
- Holding meetings with the refugee camp’s lawyers and beneficiaries and selecting health volunteers within the camp.
- Ensuring the submission of monthly tuberculosis reports and maintaining and archiving tuberculosis reports.
- House-to-house assessment of refugee camps during working days.
- Maintaining and maintaining records, copies of monthly reports, and other forms related to the tuberculosis program.
- Strengthening the identification of potential tuberculosis patients, collecting three sputum samples from potential tuberculosis patients and transferring them to diagnostic health centers in accordance with the guidelines and forms of the National Tuberculosis Control Program.
- Conducting active fact-finding among internally displaced persons camps
- Tracking treatment of tuberculosis patients among internally displaced persons camps.
- Follow-up examinations of tuberculosis patients every second or third month, fifth month, and the end of treatment according to the guidelines of the National Tuberculosis Control Program.
- Conducting health education, especially about tuberculosis, among the refugee camps.
- Performing other duties assigned by the relevant authority or department.
Job Requirements:
- Having Afghan citizenship
- Must be a graduate of nursing, midwifery, or medical technology.
- Having a kind and friendly personality
- Sufficient health and strength for work
- Sufficient abilities to work in the office
- Proficiency in local languages
- Have experience and work history in the diagnosis, care, or follow-up of patients with tuberculosis (TB).
