Under the overall supervision of the UNDP Resident Representative for all administrative matters and under the direct supervision of the UN Clinic Medical Health Manager for technical matters, the Clinical Psychologist is expected to be involved in the care of UN staff. He/she will be responsible for providing client-centered services while facilitating the maintenance of good morale among colleagues.
III. Position Purpose
– The clinical psychologist is required to work closely with the clinic’s medical consultant staff to recover and manage cases requiring psychological support
– He/she can directly receive patients who wish to consult individually or in groups
– He/she will be responsible for maintaining (training and informing) colleagues on topics related to the psychological conditions necessary for working under stress.
– He/she accompanies all patients in isolation, confinement or hospitalization
IV. Key Duties and Accountabilities

1.) Counseling
Example of Duties: Arrange individual and/or group counseling and therapy for UN personnel and their dependents
– Develop and implement an awareness and prevention plan on stress management and its consequences in the workplace and applicable to all United Nations agencies
– Identify, address and monitor cases of high stress/burnout, as well as cases of stress related to critical incidents among United Nations staff and dependents
– Provide individual and group listening sessions as needed
– Be willing to travel and visit United Nations offices/sub-offices regularly to implement mental illness management and staff well-being activities.
2.) Medical Team Work
Example of Duties: – Ensure and/or facilitate professional multidisciplinarity within the Clinic
– Take charge of all cases from the different departments by facilitating liaison psychiatry (neuro – gynecology – pediatrics – cardio- etc.)
– Participate in the Medical Team
– Provide patient reports to the Chief Physician of the United Nations Clinic
3.) Awareness and Prevention (Information and Training)
Example of Duties: – Plan and facilitate training on mental health and well-being for United Nations staff and their dependents
– Disseminate material on understanding and managing mental illness for ongoing psychoeducation
4.) Take care of hospitalized patients – At home – Isolated –
Example of Duties: – Accompany hospitalized cases related to critical incidents and decompensations of mental illnesses
– Take charge of the psychological aspects related to chronic illnesses, support people who have to cope after heavy diagnoses
5.) OTHERS
Example of Duties: – Work with the Coordination and Representatives of United Nations Agencies, Funds and Programs in Burundi, on stress indicators and strategies/measures to reduce stress at work

V. Requirements:
Education
Hold a Master’s degree (BAC+5), or a Bachelor’s degree (BAC+3) in Clinical Psychology
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
• Have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience (with Master’s degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree) in the field of Clinical Psychology
• Have at least 5 years of experience in the field of counseling and psychological assistance.
• Experience in planning and facilitating training on mental health and well-being of staff would be an asset
• Experience in the use of computers and office software (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is desirable.
• Having already worked in a multicultural environment is an asset;
• Practical experience with a United Nations agency and knowledge of UN administrative rules and procedures would be desirable
• Fluency in oral and written French; knowledge of English and other official languages of the United Nations is an asset.
