Description
Diakonia is looking for a Communications Advisor to join the newly formed Global Communications Team. The Communications Advisors at Diakonia have a global scope, responsible for one or several areas of the global communications work. The scope of the role can include a thematic area, a geographic area, and/or specific channels or target groups.
The Global Communications Team has a dual purpose – supporting all communications work throughout the organization at country, multi-context and global level, as well as building Diakonia’s brand and visibility in prioritized contexts.
For this specific role we are looking for someone who has contextual knowledge of development work in one or several of Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Mali, Burkina Faso and DRC. Expertise in communication for development, knowledge management and advocacy communication is also valuable to this role.
Responsibility
- Develop, coordinate, implement and follow up the communications strategy for the designated channels, thematic and/or geographic area, in line with the global communications strategy and other relevant steering documents.
- Coordinate and lead the communications work in the designated channels, thematic and/or geographic area, in collaboration with team leader and director.
- Support the program offices with communications advice and production.
- Perform day to day communications tasks within the designated area, such as writing articles, interviewing, producing units for social media, managing photos and so on.
- Designated areas divided amongst the Communications Advisors are for example branding and visibility, internal communications, advocacy communications, communications for resource mobilization, communication support to program offices, web site management, social media, graphic design and photography.
Additional tasks
- Monitor and stay updated on developments within the area of expertise.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the global communications work.
- Filling in gaps when the team is understaffed.
Requirements
- University degree in communications, media or similar.
- Contextual knowledge
- At least three years’ experience of communications work in an NGO or similar.
- Advanced English – writing and speaking
- Proficiency in Office 365, web editing tools and other programs relevant to the designated areas.
Desired qualifications
- Additional language skills in French, Swahilior other
- Photography and video editing
- Graphic design
- Experience in managing social media channels
