BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies, building prosperity and supporting a sustainable future for people recovering from conflict, natural disasters and the impact of climate change. The External Relations Unit (ERU) in WFP Sudan Country Office (CO) is responsible for partnerships (donor relations), communications, and reporting. The ERU uses various forms of communications to raise awareness of the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe and famine in Sudan to generate funding. The communications team also leverages various multimedia channels and products to explain how WFP’s assistance is saving lives amid the world’s largest hunger crisis in Sudan to both internal and external stakeholders, such as media, donors, general public, as well as staff in WFP Sudan, Regional Bureau, and Headquarters. In light of the continuation of a regional corporate scale up for Sudan and the famine confirmation there is increased media and public attention, more attention and pressure for WFP visibility on social media channels, higher demand for donor visibility and communications, and a pressing need to communicate more with the general Sudanese public and our beneficiaries to counter disinformation. The External Relations Unit is therefore seeking a digital communications and donor visibility officer to manage social media channels, including opening a new Facebook account for WFP Sudan, as well as produce high quality multimedia content, manage communities on social media, and ensure all donor visibility requirements (bag-marking, logo representation, social media acknowledgements, human interest stories) are met. The Communications Consultant will report directly to the WFP Sudan Head of Communications and Spokesperson and provide support to the communications teams on a wide range of activities as outlined below. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS Within delegated authority of the Head of Area Office / International Programme manager, the Communication and documentation consultant shall be responsible for: • Plan, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that favourably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and donors in order to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities • Producing multimedia content (social media graphics, videos, news reels) for various digital channels including social media, WFP’s multi-media hub, and for dissemination to international broadcasters • Prepare communications products that effectively convey the desired message to targeted audience(s) as required.

• Define a social media plan for the assigned area which leverages social media content, platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities. • Generate and/or facilitate the production of donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fundraising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages • Coordinate and prepare accurate and timely reporting on communications activities that enables informed decision-making, evaluation of objectives and consistency of information presented to stakeholders • Track and analyse traditional and online media, to identify trends and/or issues, and propose solutions and ideas to improve the effectiveness of communication strategy and activities • Maintain and develop a network of social media influencers and • Any other required tasks for the successful visual documentation and communication. DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT • All donor visibility requirements tracked, completed, and reported on • Effectively manage WFP Sudan’s X/Twitter account and increase follower audience/engagement/reach • Open and launch WFP Sudan’s Facebook account • Weekly social media plans prepared and implemented • Monthly content collection and production plans/storyboards • Monthly social media analysis reports • Prepare and disseminate a monthly newsletter for donors, partners, and stakeholders • Provide translation support as required DESIRED EXPERIENCE FOR ENTRY IN THE ASSIGNMENT • Superior technical skills in photo and video shooting, including expertise with camera and filming equipment • Excellent skills in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, etc), Canva design for social media, and other content editing/production software such as WOCHIT or After Effects • Extensive experience in filmmaking, photo shooting, and production • Experience working with international organizations and documenting/covering humanitarian or development activities • Knowledge and experience with social media • Excellent written and verbal communication skills MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education: Advanced University degree in Journalism, Media Stuides International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses Experience: Progressively responsible experience in multimedia production, online campaigns, social media management, and/or digital journalism. Languages: Fluency (level C) of spoken and written English required. Fluency in Arabic desirable.
