Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment’s Policy and Programme Division is responsible for the organization’s strategy, overseeing special initiatives, which include environment and security work, and the organization’s performance review and monitoring. Under the overall supervision of the Head of Project Review and Oversight Unit or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Communications Specialist will be carrying out the following tasks: • Proofread and edit updates of the UNEP Programme and Project Management Manual (PPMM), and accordingly update the format and the layout of the PPMM; prepare and produce high quality, modern gender-neutral visual graphics including infographics, charts, diagrams, illustrations and presentations in alignment with copyrights and UNEP brand guidelines. • Design and produce high quality visual layouts of project management knowledge products. • Edit and finalise communications and knowledge products including presentations, guidance notes for the Project Review and Oversight Unit. • Design and produce communication materials in support of UNEP’s project management community of practice (COP) dialogues/engagements/webinars and other online virtual exchanges among practitioners. • Maintain, update and curate UNEP project management COP communications channels including SharePoint space, online repository library and related mailing lists. • Draft, review and implement UNEP project management COP knowledge management and communications plans. • Coordinate with other communications and knowledge management focal points within PPD and UNEP to ensure activities are implemented in a strategic and complementary manner to encourage knowledge sharing/exchange and good practices. • Expose/introduce UNEP colleagues to navigate knowledge network resources, sites and serve as a knowledge management champion/advocate in the team.
Qualifications/special skills
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Communication, Graphic Design or related field is required. Supplementary training in Graphic Design or related field is an added advantage. A minimum of nine (9) years of experience in communications, graphic designs, including designing media materials, using software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Corel Draw or other professional design software is required. The Candidate should be able to show portfolio of work produced in the last two years when requested. This should capture experience in improving and editing artwork, photos, charts and other graphic elements and media integrations. Further, the candidate is required to provide two or more references who can attest to the professionalism and quality standard of work delivered, associated to both editing as well as graphic design elements. Proven experience with the United Nations or an international organization will be an added advantage.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of other UN official languages will be an added advantage. Proven experience of editing and/or writing in English, an eye for detail, and ability to make text succinct and persuasive and have high standards for effective written communication.
