Qualifications:

Support Children and Afghan Women Needs Organization (SCAWNO) is a non-profit NGO registered with the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, registration number 1174 in 2028. Established by a group of dedicated and qualified Afghan professionals, SCAWNO aims to promote community development, good governance, democracy building, and capacity building. The organization was founded by members of Local Youth Councils, with a mission to contribute positively to the development process of communities in Afghanistan through capacity building, women’s rights awareness, gender-based violence, children’s protection awareness, legal consultation, economic sustainability, income generation projects, literacy, vocational training, health education, and teacher training. SCAWNO’s vision is to create a peaceful, free, and developed Afghanistan based on good Afghan cultural values, where the population lives in peace, with self-dignity and self-sufficiency, and where people manage their own personal development and the development of the society in which they live.

Job Description:

Main Responsibilities:

Learner Assessment and Support:

  • Conduct regular visits to literacy and skills development classes to observe and assess learners’ psychosocial well-being.
  • Identify learners exhibiting signs of emotional, behavioral, or social challenges that may hinder their learning progress.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions tailored to the specific needs of learners, addressing issues such as trauma, stress, and anxiety.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans for learners requiring ongoing psychosocial assistance.

Facilitator Collaboration and Capacity Building:

  • Work closely with class facilitators to share observations and insights regarding learners’ psychosocial needs.
  • Offer guidance and strategies to facilitators on managing classroom dynamics and supporting learners facing psychosocial challenges.
  • Conduct training sessions for facilitators on topics related to mental health awareness, stress management, and creating inclusive learning environments.
  • 3. Community and Family Engagement:
  • Engage with learners’ families to understand external factors affecting learners’ psychosocial well-being.
  • Provide counseling and support to families, promoting positive parenting practices and addressing domestic issues impacting learners.
  • Organize community awareness sessions to destigmatize mental health issues and promote the importance of psychosocial support in education.
  • 4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions.
  • Monitor the progress of learners receiving psychosocial support and adjust intervention strategies as needed.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports detailing activities, outcomes, and recommendations to the Program Manager.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience, preferably with NGOs, UN agencies, or similar organizations operating in Afghanistan.
  • Strong active listening and empathy skills for client support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and problem-solving
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Familiar with basic psychological principles and counselling ethics
  • Experience in working with vulnerable populations
  • Fluent in Dari and Pashto, with good written and spoken English
  • Honest, patient, well-mannered, and Afghan citizen
