Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation Unit within the Biodiversity and Land Branch fulfills the implementing agency role for UNEP on the Biodiversity and Land Degradation Focal Areas projects supported through Global Environment Facility funds. The unit currently oversees over 150 projects globally. The Unit would like to recruit a Data Analytics Assistant National UN Youth Volunteer. The objective of the consultancy is to contribute to improvement of the data management system of projects under the Unit’s portfolio through enrichment, documentation, and reporting on the impacts of the portfolio.
Task description
Specifically, the Data Analytics Assistant will perform the following tasks under the GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation global portfolio: a. Contribute to the enrichment of GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation Unit project data and activities in IPMR to improve the accuracy of monitoring and reporting.b. Contribute to monthly activity monitoring and reporting to support Integrated Planning Management and Reporting (IPMR) quarterly business reporting. c. Contribute to Operational Closure of Projects and Project Preparation Grants (PPGs) in IPMR. d. Maintain a repository to organize project documents including all phases of the project management cycle (development, implementation, reporting, evaluation, and closure), Project Coordination Programs (PCPs), etc. e. Maintain up-to-date information on the unit’s portfolio monitoring and evaluation databases. f. Support with internal communications in following up on Knowledge Management processes. g. Contribute to the improvement of other knowledge management and reporting initiatives within the GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation Unit including through targeted advisory, platform testing, and feedback. h. Participate in relevant knowledge management meetings within the GEF Biodiversity and Land Degradation Unit. i. Respond to information requests from the Branch/Division and the GEF Coordination Office and contribute to the preparation of required documentation and presentations.
