Mission and objectives

UNICEF in Turkey works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkey since 1951. UNICEF’s programme in Turkey focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Context

As a volunteer, you will support the Risk Analysis and Preparedness Section (RAPS), within the Office of Emergency Programmes. RAPS’ aim is to help UNICEF be best prepared and impactful in saving and protecting lives, and in reducing countries’ and populations’ fragilities and children’s vulnerability around the world towards reaching the SDGs. RAPS has a mandate to improve risk analysis and forecasting related to contextual risks, including developing methods and tools to support these activities. To support this work, RAPS is revising its prioritization process, including the development of a data ranking tool, to support senior leadership in effectively allocating funding and technical support. The global quantitative tool will serve as a preliminary ranking of countries based on their level of risk, country capacity and preparedness, looking at a wide range of indicators. You would be involved in the design, data review and extraction of the data for this quantitative tool.

Task description

Unlocking Humanitarian Preparedness Insights through Data extraction and compilation: – Manually extract data from various sources, including PDFs and websites, for 20-30 countries (to split between the 2 volunteers) – Organize and compile the extracted data into a structured format (e.g., spreadsheets or databases). – Cleanse and pre-process raw data to remove inconsistencies, missing values, and outliers. – Maintain clear records of data sources, extraction methods, and any assumptions made during the process. Document any challenges encountered during data extraction. – Flag issues related to data availability and frequency of updates. Support on the identification of alternate sources as required.
