Mission and objectives
UN-HABITAT POLICY, LEGISLATION AND GOVERNANCE SECTION (PLGS) The (Urban) Policy, Legislation and Governance Section (PLGS) is one of the five sections of the Urban Practices Branch of UN-Habitat. It plays a critical role in implementing the Agency’s Strategic Plan, flagship programmes, the relevant 2030 development agenda and the New Urban Agenda as it serves as the UN-Habitat focal point and global solutions center for Urban Policy, Legislation and Governance. The Section in collaboration with other parts of the agency both at Headquarters and in the field, works to support governments and partners in knowledge and tools development, capacity building, policy dialogue as well as advisory services focused on: Coordinating the Agency’s substantive, normative and operational work on Policy, Legislation and Governance; Developing, documenting and disseminating policy, legislation and governance norms, standards, tools, methodologies, regulatory frameworks, operating procedures and inspiring practices at all levels i.e. global, regional, national and sub-national; Designing tailored-made policy, legislation and governance solutions for cities, regions and metropolises, enhance the urban-rural continuum, with a view to reduce spatial inequality and poverty and also promote shared prosperity; Generating and maintaining knowledge and data (including Indexes and database) on Urban Policy, Legislation and Governance; Leading the testing/piloting of norms, standards, tools, methodologies, regulatory frameworks, through initiatives, programmes and projects on policy, legislation and governance; Providing technical assistance, quality assurance/control, policy advice and services on norms, standards, tools, methodologies and regulatory frameworks to internal and external partners including on design, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of operational program
Context
With the release of the Global State of National Urban Policy Report, this database will be crucial to member states to identify the progress made in urban policies within respective countries. Specified tasks will assist to supplement the report and make data access rich.
Task description
Assist to optimize database search engine. Analyse and improve current search functionality. Implement optimizations for faster, more accurate results. Document changes and improvements (Comments). Assist to create efficient and queryable data tables. Assess and redesign the database schema. Implement a new table structure for optimal query performance. Validate with test queries. assist to design an interactive map with layers and toggle functionality (leaflet). Implement layers and toggle functionality. Ensure map updates from the back-end. Test user interaction. Integrate with WordPress front-end. Generate downloadable maps (ROAf, RAOP, ROLAC and ROAS) on user query interaction. Harmonized the React Native app front-end styles (tailwind) and improved page/section structures with bookmark feature. Review and harmonize UI/UX styles (figma). Improve app page layout in an easy to navigate interface. Implement bookmark feature. Conduct usability testing. Clean code back-end with notifications and calendar integration. User testing, survey feedback and online uploading. Test all app features and sections if they are responsive in both IOS and Android Phones. Upload on google Play Store and App store. Documentation for update and quality control.
