It enjoys consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a signatory to the Code of Conduct for International Red Cross and red Crescent Moments and NGOs in Disaster Relief. Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

Assisting the DRR Engineer and community mobilizer in developing technical materials on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Projects. The responsibilities will include but not be limited to this:

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

·      Supporting the establishment of DRR committees in targeted communities.

·      Helping complete forms and documentation related to DRR committees.

·      Assisting in building the capacity of committee members through training and guidance.

·      Aiding in registering DRR committees with relevant departments.

·      Contributing to the preparation of Hazard, Vulnerability, and Capacity Assessment (HVCA) plans.

·      Facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions among Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and other stakeholders involved in DRR activities.

·      Supporting program documentation, assessments, and studies as required.

·      Helping provide DRR training & workshops to communities to develop DRR plans.

·      Assisting in the facilitation and coordination of cash-for-work activities in various sub-projects.

·      Coordinating with the procurement team to ensure timely delivery of project materials and inputs.

·      Conducting field visits and attending meetings with local authorities, community leaders, and beneficiaries to assess progress and challenges.

·      Helping prepare project reports as per supervisory guidelines and timelines.

·      Ensuring compliance with IRW-AF regulations and integrating community development and “Do No Harm” principles into project activities.

·      Documenting project activities, success stories, case studies, achievements, and lessons learned.

·      Supporting the livelihood team in capacity-building activities for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and monitoring established groups in targeted communities.

·      Assisting in conducting community training and awareness programs on disaster risk reduction initiatives.

·      Providing regular updates and reports on DRR activities to the Livelihood Officer.

·      Undertaking any other relevant tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

·      Bachelor’s degree in social science, Agriculture, Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience is not required but will be considered an advantage.

·      Interest in community mobilization, awareness programs, and disaster risk reduction within humanitarian or non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

·      Basic proficiency in computer skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

·      Fluency in local languages (Dari & Pashto) and a basic understanding of English (written and spoken).

·      Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to engage with communities.

·      Ability to work effectively in a team, adapt to challenges, and show a problem-solving mindset.

·      Eagerness to learn and gain hands-on experience in planning, reporting, and fieldwork.

·      Honest, proactive, and well-mannered, with a commitment to social development and humanitarian values.
