Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible to perform his/her tasks and duties under the immediate supervision of UNHAS field Aviation Associate.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • As a driver, the incumbent should be able to drive the passengers’ bus (where available), armored vehicle (where available)
  • Provide pick-up and drop-off of aircrew accordingly when required.
  • Provide safe and secure transportation to UNHAS Staff from their residence/guesthouses to UNHAS Compound, UNWFP Main/Sub Office and other destinations as per requirements.
  • Log all official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes and vehicles technical services as per the organizational rules and requirements.
  • Maintain regular checks on vehicles (fuel, oil, lights, tires, water, brakes fluid, battery, windshield spray) routinely and as per the technical requirement of the assets and report any technical fault(s) of the equipment in a timely manner.
  • Make sure the vehicles are kept cleaned all times and washed whenever necessary.
  • Assist in distribution of mail, invoices and other administrative related tasks advised by UNHAS various departments.
  • Replace other driver(s) in area WFP area office/sub office when requested by Aviation Associate or WFP/UNHAS management.
  • Perform any other job/task requested by UNHAS Management and department/Aviation Associate such as;
  • Assist passengers with their baggage at the Check-in counter and help prepare items (tag numbers, boarding cards, etc.) to properly identify, segregate and label the baggage and cargo as per flights and destinations.
  • Receive/distribute the outgoing and incoming pouches to/ from the agencies and ensure that the pouches are going to the right destination and matching the name and signature of the recipient.
  • Load /off load passenger baggage with the full care and respect to the passenger’s baggage and ensure that passengers received their luggage according to given tags.
  • Assist with cargo handling loading/offloading ensuring that that loading is taking place under the instruction of the Supervisor and in the presence of the Operator representative/pilot.
  • Assist Helper/Site Maintenance Assistant with passenger body check, cargo, baggage search.
  • During the absence of the Helper/Site maintenance, the driver is to replace the Helper/Site maintenance and perform the Helper/Site maintenance Assistant tasks.

Safety :

  • Aviation Safety refers to every aviator and individual operating in an aviation environment. Safety awareness and application are imperative and mandatory with UNHAS while operating in all areas at the airfield/airport. Follow and maintain regular driving safety rules and procedures while driving at airsides, ramps or any other part of.
  • Maintain a-all-time vigilance and report any violation which may jeopardize the safety and security of UNHAS aircraft, staff and equipment.
  • Collect and take part in FOD collection and disposal operation whenever required.
  • Drive safely with maximum caution and care while driving in town (on roads). Always maintain safety distance and drive prudently to avoid accidents and injuries.
  • Always remember to drive within the speed limits determined by UNWFP driving rules and regulations.
  • As a driver make sure all occupants including you (the driver) buckle-up seatbelts before the vehicle moves.
  • Maintain adequate and reliable verbal and radio communications with the required stations such as Air Traffic Control (ATC – where available) and other stations determined by the WFP Security department.
  • Be aware of and apply all UNWFP driving safety rules and regulations all times.

Job Requirements

Education: Completion of secondary school education. Formal drivers training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicle following local rules and regulations.

Experience: Two or more years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other kinds of motorized vehicles. Experience in defensive driving is desirable.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues.
  • Knowledge of the vehicle loading capacity and other parameters.
  • Knowledge of driving/boat operating rules and regulations whichever applicable.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, buoyant wearable safety devices, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic skills to assist in case of emergency, knowledge of first aid basic methods.
  • Knowledge and ability to use radio, email, telephone and other applications.
  • Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
  • Ability to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy and tact

Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and good communication written and spoken in local languages (Pashto and Dari).
