Job Description:
Purpose
The Light Vehicles Driver- Mechanic transports people and goods in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws. He carries out preventive maintenance and repairs on ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment in accordance with guidelines and recommendations.
Main Responsibilities:
Driver (60%):
- Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules, national traffic laws and the ICRC principles of Fleet Safety Project.
- Adapts his driving style and speed to weather and road conditions.
- Drives in a safely manner, transports ICRC personnel and cargo according to Fleet and Logistics Procedures.
- Makes radio contacts (prior departure and upon arrival) according to the Delegation/SD security rules.
- Constantly monitors security conditions on the road.
- Reports to his supervisor the road conditions, delays and potential related problems when applicable.
- Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
- Drives in manner that minimizes fuel consumption and maintains vehicle in good technical condition.
- Provides assistance to passenger(s) in case of need.
- Driver must sign all the documents of goods loaded in his vehicle prior to any transportation process.
- Participates in the loading/unloading process, and he is responsible of all the cargo transported by his vehicle until the hand over with the final beneficiary.
- Reports vehicle accident immediately (incl. minor ones-scratches, dents) and produces the incident report according to Fleet procedures.
- Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards.
- Driver is responsible of all the equipment on board of vehicle (tool kit, snow chains, spare tyre, first aid kit, radio equipment, etc…).
- Checks assigned vehicle(s)` equipment and general functioning of road safety critical components: brake system, components of power steering system, suspension system, tyres and visibility (windscreen, wipers and lights condition).
- Ensures that vehicle is kept fuelled and clean at all the times, both inside and outside.
- Makes sure that the assigned vehicle is equipped with all the relevant and updated vehicle documentation (mileage and fuel records, etc.).
- Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix.
Mechanic (40%):
- Carries out necessary types of service and minor repairs on light vehicles, generators and other ICRC mechanical equipment and takes part in welding, body repairs and painting process if required according to WSM/KAB & ICRC Fleet Standard.
- Ensures that all service and repair forms (reports) are correctly filled out and forwarded without delay to WSM/KAB + LOG/MAZ in CC.
- Informs his supervisor of all the technical problems and possible repairs in due time.
- Is responsible for the Fleet spare parts stock, its management/inventory and replenishment.
- Assists with fueling and cleaning vehicles where required.
- Ensures that technical and personal security standards are followed as regards their work.
- Is responsible for tools or other property issued to him by the ICRC.
Job Requirements:
- Secondary school diploma.
- Knowledge of the local language(s).
- Knowledge (spoken and written) of English.
- 3 years of proven experience with International Humanitarian Organizations.
- Experience in automobile & generator maintenance.
- Good knowledge of mechanics.
- Good knowledge of the area of assignment.
- Driving license cat. B, C and D held for at least five years.
- Armored vehicle and truck driving experiences are assets.
