In recent years, the security and humanitarian context in Burkina Faso has become increasingly complex. Insecurity is growing, leading to serious food and nutrition crises. Access to humanitarian aid is diminishing, as is access to basic social services in affected areas. Attacks by armed groups persist.
In order to assist the affected populations, the agencies of the United Nations system, and particularly UNICEF, are experiencing a sharp increase in programmatic activities on the ground in Fada N’Gourma.
Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the team of drivers in order to continue providing appropriate and efficient operational support for the implementation of the Cooperation Programme in all areas where UNICEF is represented.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The driver will be responsible for driving and maintaining office vehicles to meet staff transportation needs as required by the Administrative Associate.
How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the administrative associate , the driver mechanic will have to perform the following tasks:
- Drive vehicles according to the transport plan established by the office while respecting UNICEF rules and procedures;
- Be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the assigned vehicle; ensure fuel is full, check water and oil levels, battery, brakes, tires, etc.;
- Carry out minor repairs and arrange for any other necessary repairs.
- Ensure that the vehicle is well maintained and clean;
- Update the vehicle logbook: record office trips, official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, oil changes, lubrication, etc.;
- Inform the Administrative Associate regularly on the performance of the vehicle driven and the necessary maintenance needs;
- Ensure that necessary action is taken in accordance with rules and regulations, in the event of involvement in an accident;
- Drive office vehicles for the transportation of authorized personnel, delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
- Strictly comply with UNDSS/UNICEF security recommendations and rules during daily activities and particularly during field missions;
- Good knowledge of roads and traffic conditions in the East and Central East region;
- Have knowledge in driving armored vehicles;
- Good physical condition and perform other duties as required.
To qualify as an advocate for each child, you must:
• Have completed secondary studies with a minimum level of the third (3rd) class, sanctioned by obtaining a BEPC or a CAP.
• Hold a valid category C and D driving license
• Have a good knowledge of driving rules and regulations as well as skills in repairing minor breakdowns;
• Have professional experience of at least 2 (two) years working as a driver with a good driving record
• Any experience in an international organization, an embassy or in the United Nations system would be an asset;
• Have a good presentation and a sense of discretion;
• Have a good knowledge of French and some knowledge of English;
• Knowledge and mastery of a local language required.
