Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. The focus of the position is to deliver responsible tasks to support UN-Habitat projects and programmes in refugee hosting county, Turkana. The position reports to the Head of Planning for Humanitarian Development Practice, Planning Finance and Economy Section. This position is in the UN-Habitat field office in Kakuma.
Responsibilities
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties: • Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and, in the case of Peacekeeping missions, for the transport of general cargo goods and or specialized hazardous good vehicles. • Collects and delivers of mail, documents, and other items. • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required; • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.; performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean. • Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc. • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident. • Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Driver training with a valid driver’s license is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid National Driving License of vehicles class B,C,E is required. Please attach a copy of the National Driving License in the attachment section.
Work Experience
A minimum of one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in the provision of driver services is required. Experience working in a hardship region is required. Experience working with an NGO or the United Nations is desirable. One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English and Swahili (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. NOTE: ”Fluency” equals a rating of ”fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ”Knowledge of” equals a rating of ”confident” in two of the four areas.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
• This position is temporarily available for a period of 365 days. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. • While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. • Subject to the funding source of the position, the eligibility for this temporary job opening may be limited to candidates based at the duty station. • Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply. United Nations Considerations
