Position Purpose
Under the guidance and supervision of the Administrative/Operations Manager and direct supervision of Fleet Manager the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to UNDSS and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver can be also required to provide driving services to the operations and programme staff in UNDSS Main Office in Port Sudan, Consultants and Experts and UN staff on mission.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services to the high-ranking officials and UNDSS Staff:
Driving office vehicles for the transport of UNDSS personnel, other high-ranking officials and visitors.
Collects and delivers mail, pouches and other documents from and to the post office, airport, government agencies and other organizations.
Operates photocopying and other office equipment.
Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
2. Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle
Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
Logs official trips, daily mileages, gas/fuel consumption, oil changes, greasing and other services and timely annual inspection and registration with the Ministry of Transport, etc.
Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
3. Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: Checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
Performs other minor repairs and arranges for external repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working order.
4.Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies
Including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary Education with a valid driver’s license is required. (Valid General Sudanese Driver’s license).
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years (with high school diploma) of relevant work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
Proven track record of knowledge of driving rules and regulations is required.
Knowledge in the use of a radio VHF is highly desired.
Experience in minor vehicle repair is a strong asset.
Experience working in the UN or other international agency is preferred.
Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
