Background

OCHA Syria based in Gaziantep Turkey as of October 2022 has 54 staff (24 international and 33 of national staff).
The office premises consist of two rented commercial buildings based in Gaziantep, to support the transportations OCHA currently has six armored vehicles and four soft-skins vehicles. Under the guidance and supervision of the Logistic/Admin Assistant the driver provides transportation support to office operations for logistic arrangement and general affairs.

The driver will aim to provide the effectiveness mobility of staff in terms of transportation within the city and for field mission within the country and cross border missions to different governorates of northwest Syria.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and, in the case of missions, for the transport of general cargo goods and or specialized hazardous good vehicles.
Makes regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the UN office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collect goods from customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given.
Ensure the availability of SRM compliance equipment such as bullet proof helmets/vests, first aid kit/trauma bag accounted for the bullet proof helmets/vest before and after the mission.
Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, office directory, map of the city/country, necessary spare parts.
Take on other duties as required by the office due to shifting of operational priorities.
Requirements:

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a driver is required.
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle maintenance is required.
Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Driver training with a valid driver’s license.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

Previous working experience as a driver in UN, International Organization, or Embassy is desirable.
Having license/trained for driving armoured vehicle is desirable.
Having successfully completed first aid training is desirable.
Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorised vehicles desirable.
Other:

A valid Driver’s license (specific documents through e-governmental web page might be requested at interview stage).
Physically qualified to operate as a driver.
Language Requirements:

Proficiency in English and Turkish is required.
Proficiency in Arabic is desirable.
