Job Description:
General duties
- Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
- Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct.
- Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
- Always respects and observes staff regulations and security rules.
- Always represents the ICRC in a professional manner.
- Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers.
- Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
- May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.
Main Responsibilities:
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Contributes to designing, planning, and implementing of nutrition projects based on standard, recognized methods adapted to objectives, the context, and the resources available.
- Designs or adjusts data collection tools and collects data in line with the household economy approach.
- Performs mid-level qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Enters data into and maintains the EcoSec Project Activity Management tool (PAM).
- Contributes to identifying response options based on an analysis of EcoSec core components (food consumption/production, living conditions, income support and capacity-building) in multidisciplinary approach and alignment with the EcoSec operational plan and strategic orientations for Afghanistan.
- Supports the implementation of nutrition sensitive activities linked to other areas of operation (e.g. Agro) and contributes to develop appropriate materials or training modules for integration into these programmes.
- Contributes to designing a good method for registering beneficiaries.
- Contributes to developing methods, plans, implementation, logistics and reporting for aid distributions.
- Contributes to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the overall EcoSec programs in the North and Northeast region in coordination with the EcoSec Delegate and EcoSec Coordinator for related budget, staff, and material resources (including mobilizing specialists/ service providers).
- Collaborates and builds synergies actively with other ICRC Departments (e.g. Health, Water and Habitat, Protection, Cooperation, Communication, Logistics, ICT and Finance and Administration).
- Integrates cross-cutting issues at all stages, such as context-specific vulnerabilities, nutrition and accountability to beneficiaries and applies a risk-management approach in close coordination with the supervisor.
- Participates in monitoring and evaluation of EcoSec activities conducted in the North and Northeast Region.
- Provides constructive feedback related to the program and ensures effective integration of the agreed changes and reviews recommendations.
- Prepares financial forecast in coordination with administration in Mazar-i-Sharif.
INSTITUTIONAL REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION
- Contributes to key strategy, planning and reporting documents for the EcoSec programs.
- Prepares field visit reports, minutes of meetings and other documents related to EcoSec activities when required.
- Contributes to the weekly operational report (SITREP) and other institutional reporting.
- Provides monthly statistical reports and ensures accurate reporting is shared.
COOPERATION WITH NATIONAL SOCIETY AND PARTNERS
- Ensures effective operational partnership and cooperation with technical staff of the NS at regional and branch level if/when requested.
- Participates in joint assessments/field visits and program implementation with NS and/or partner organisations in Mazar-i-Sharif and Kunduz for partnership programs.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments.
- Is aware of the Sub-delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position.
- Contributes to analysing the security, socioeconomic, cultural, and political environment as it relates to the ICRC in Mazar-i-Sharif.
- Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.
- Translates documents and interprets upon requests.
- Takes responsibility for her/his own professional learning and development.
Scope & Impact
- Geographical remit: Mazar-i-Sharif and Kunduz.
Relationships
- Under the guidance of the Deputy Head of Sub-delegation and the EcoSec Delegate, s/he interacts with the EcoSec team members and other departments’ responsible as per program needs.
- Externally, maintains and develops a network of district-/province-level contacts with communities and their leaders, authorities, and other humanitarian actors in consultation with the supervisor.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma, technical education or professional or university degree in a related field.
- Technical education or work experience in the field of nutrition, food security and livelihoods.
- Good command (spoken and written) of English; knowledge of the local language(s).
- 3–5 years’ experience in a similar field of activity
