Job Summary

Under the overall supervision of the UNDP-East Area Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the successful implementation of the UNDP projects under direct implementation modality, and the projects implemented by UNDP partners in Nangarhar province.

He will be responsible for ensuring the timely and effective implementation of energy projects and infrastructure projects in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. Site selection, feasibility study & design of energy project are the significant responsibilities under this vacancy. Besides, s/he will work in close cooperation with local authorities, community representatives, implementing partners and UNDP-East staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Developing and implementing maintenance schedules for electrical equipment, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.

• Collaborating with other project team members to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in a timely manner.

• Monitoring and analyzing electrical system performance data to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and system optimization.

• Providing technical expertise for the integration of new electrical components and technologies into the existing system.

• Ensuring compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations.

• Select appropriate components and materials for the hardware design.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

• Create detailed schematic diagrams using CAD or alternative tools like Altium Designer.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electronics into larger systems.

• Verify the correctness of the schematic design.

• Design and optimize Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts.

• Consider factors such as signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.

• Collaborate with PCB manufacturers to ensure design manufacturability.

• Build and test prototypes of electronic systems.

• Debug and troubleshoot hardware issues during the prototyping phase.

• Conduct thorough testing to ensure reliability and performance.

• Research and select electronic components based on project requirements.

• Evaluate components for cost, availability, and performance.

• Maintain relationships with suppliers for component procurement.

• Create comprehensive documentation for hardware designs.

• Document design decisions, component specifications, and testing procedures.

• Ensure documentation is accessible to the engineering team.

• Work closely with software developers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.

• Collaborate on interdisciplinary projects to integrate electronics with other systems.

• Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on cross-disciplinary designs.

• Ensure that hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards.

• Collaborate with certification agencies to obtain necessary certifications.

• Address and resolve compliance issues as they arise.

Job Requirements

Language:

• Excellent written and oral English skills a necessary requirement.

• Excellent spoken and verbal skills of Pashto and Dari languages required.

Qualifications

Years of experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, including technical survey, design, cost estimation in energy projects.

• Excellent knowledge of MS project, Primavera, Auto-Cad, and Engineering related software.

• Experience working with consultation and coordination with local authorities, community representatives, implementing partners and field staff.

Job Location: 

• Dare- i- Noor, Jalalabad, Afghanistan

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; higher degree preferred.
