Job Description:
The overall objective of the consultancy
The purpose of these Terms of Reference (ToR) is to outline the requirements and responsibilities for recruiting a qualified English Language Teacher to provide online English language instruction to the provincial female staff of Afghanaid in Badakhshan, Samangan, Ghor and Daikundi. This initiative aims to enhance the language skills of staff, facilitating effective communication and professional development.
Service Provider’s Deliverables:
Through an assignment, segment the national-level staff according to their proficiency level in English.
Prepare a thematic syllabus, that encompasses the needs of the staff as per their level.
Conduct online English language classes using appropriate digital platforms for all designated provinces.
Have familiarity with online teaching platforms (like Zoom or Google Classroom), tools for creating interactive content (like quizzes and videos), and managing digital resources.
Prepare a curriculum that meets the needs of staff at different levels, from beginners to advanced learners.
Prepare engaging lesson materials for each class, including readings, grammar exercises, and quizzes, among others.
Manage and report the classes and student development weekly to the line manager.
Give English lessons to provincial female staff for approximately 7.5 hours per week, focusing on speaking, writing, listening and reading.
Keeping track of lesson plans, student progress, and schedules in a remote teaching environment.
Ensure that all the materials used are culturally appropriate to an Islamic country.
Designed, graded, and gave feedback on weekly homework assignments.
Keep a record of student’s attendance and grades.
Prepare the student to undertake the TOEFL or IELTS certificates in the medium term.
If needed, provide additional resources to more advanced students to supplement their learning.
Research new language teaching methods to stay updated on the latest teaching methodologies, technology, and trends in language education.
Working days and Hours:
There will be three 90-minute classes per week for six months, three days in a week (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday).
Financial process:
The payment will be done on a monthly basis based on actual number of staff and attendance report. Rate for each class will be $25 per month.

Job Requirements:
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education & Professional Qualification
BA or undergraduate degree in English, ESL, TESOL or a related field.
Degree qualified in a teaching and technical discipline.
Work Experience
At least three years’ demonstrable experience in teaching English, of which at least one year should be in national or international organisations.
Required Expertise
Essential
Proficiency in both Dari and English, with strong language skills in teaching English as a second language.
Experience with adult education groups.
Experience in online teaching and familiarity with digital teaching tools and platforms and managing digital resources.
Background in curriculum development and assessment design
Proven management ability and strong interpersonal skills – team player.
Problem-solving and leadership skills.
Proficiency in computer software, including word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to deal with difficult, often frustrating work situations.
Gender sensitivity.
Sensitivity to Islamic culture.
Commitment to support/develop the capacity of the national staff
Personal integrity and a sense of humour.
Knowledge of personal strengths and weaknesses.
Ability to manage conflicting priorities in personal workload.
Knowledge of exit strategies and sustainability issues.
Desirable
Experience in working with NGOs or INGOs.
Experience in standardised ESL exams such as TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge.
