Mission and objectives
WHO’s goal in the field of transplantation is to fulfill the requirements of the resolution WHA57.18 of the fifty-seventh World Health Assembly.
The following is a summary of the objectives:
To collaborate with Member States and offer support upon their request in order to guarantee efficient national regulation of allogeneic and xenogeneic transplantation operations. Accountability, traceability, and proper monitoring of adverse events—specifically, the spread of infectious pathogens with xenogeneic origins—would be guaranteed as a result.
to improve individuals’ access to safe and efficient organ, tissue, and cell transplantation. Furthermore, to guarantee the technological and ethical procedures of obtaining human material for transplantation in order to monitor both live donors and recipients;
to foster international collaboration in order to support the worldwide standardization of ethical and technological transplantation methods.
