Mission and objectives
Under Resolution 2677 (2023), the Security Council determined that the situation in South Sudan continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security in the region.

The Council extended the UNMISS mandate until 15 March 2024. It also emphasized that the Mission should continue advancing its three-year strategic vision defined in resolution 2567 (2021) to prevent a return to civil war, build durable peace and support inclusive, accountable governance as well as free, fair and peaceful elections in accordance with the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, UNMISS is therefore authorized to use all necessary means to implement its mandate which includes:

(a) Protection of civilians
(b) Creating conditions conducive to the delivery of humanitarian assistance
(c) Supporting the Implementation of the Revitalised Agreement and the Peace Process
(d) Monitoring, investigating, and reporting on violations of humanitarian and human rights law

The overall ceiling for uniformed personnel is maintained at 17,000 troops and 2,101 police, including 88 corrections officers.

Context
The Accommodation Management Unit (AMU) is responsible for implementing policies and procedures relating to the provision of housing for UNMISS and non-UNMISS personnel residing within UNMISS premises. Its services include allocation of transit and permanent accommodation, Managing Conference Room Bookings, Processing of requests for alteration of UNMISS-provided accommodations, Distribution of water to offices, ensuring payment of rental rates for UNMISS provided accommodation and use of facilities within UNMISS compounds. With a high turnover of Mission personnel, especially uniformed personnel and a shortage in available housing, AMU is committed to ensuring prudent management and utilization of accommodation facilities.

The Facilities Management Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the Chief Accommodation Management Unit or his/her delegates. The staff member is expected to demonstrate the UN Core Values (Inclusion, Integrity, Humility and Humanity) and UN Behaviours (Connect and collaborate, Analyse and Plan, deliver results with positive impact, learn and develop, and Adapt and innovate) in his/her daily life in general and particular in the workplace.
Task description
Under the overall supervision of the Chief Accommodation Management Unit or his/her delegates, the UN Volunteers will undertake the following tasks:

• Participate in the development and review of technical specifications for accommodation items.
• Conduct technical evaluation for items to be purchased under the solicitation.
• Respond to questions from the vendors related to item description during procurement processes.
• Carry out technical inspection of accommodation items delivered in the mission to ascertain quality compliances or fit for purpose.
• Collate accommodation items requirements from Field Offices for acquisition and distribution plans.
• Prepare items distribution plan for all locations and share it with Supply Warehouse for implementation.
• Monitor progress on implementation of distribution plans and keeping FOs updated.
• Provide regular updates to Field Offices on the procurement status of accommodation items.
• Prepare and monitor all required tracking tools (Asset Register).
• Monitor stock level of stored items, take inventory regularly and initiate the process of restocking items.
• Coordinate with Zone Managers to ensure compliance with room inventory due to the availability of items upon request or check-in and check-out.
• Process iNeed requests within the required turnaround time.
• Organize the delivery, assembling of accommodation items and set up of accommodations.
• Coordinate with zone managers to ensure proper disposal of out-of-order items in the respective zones.
• Plan, assign and track daily activities for the ICs/technicians dealing with accommodation appliances out of order.
• Facilitate the transfer of barcoded items (TV) between users and submit signed HOV to One Stop Shop for due processing during check-in and check-out.
• Process incident reports for any Accommodation items damages.
• Endorse transfer of items between accommodations.
• Provides support to the Camp Reception by receiving and processing accommodation requests in a fair and transparent way, check in, check out, change and swaps of accommodation, create and submit engineering work requests for accommodations and conference rooms, manage, maintain and update accommodation waiting lists, etc) when required.
• Informs new staff members and Camp visitors of Rules, Regulations.
• Prepare Individual work plan in line with the Service Delivery/Mission objectives and priorities and update it in Inspira within the deadline.
• Respect deadlines for any given tasks, performance evaluations, reports, completion of mandatory trainings and meetings attendances.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor or Chief AMU.
