Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.
The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.
Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementer. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery.
AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.
Job Description:
Appropriate treatment and behavior with clinic personnel and visitors, respect for the culture and traditions of the people and their offices
Implementation of new development programs
Sticking to duty and following the established rules
Participating in trainings and transferring the learned knowledge to other employees of the health center according to the internal training plan of the health center
Assistant in the general administration of the clinic
Responsible for managing and monitoring the implementation of infection prevention standards in the relevant departments of the clinic
Responsible for managing and supervising the provision of health education and advertisements for clients
Direct care of patients, women and children with accurate diagnosis and treatment
Treatment of mild form of pre-eclampsia, uncompleted abortions and return of patients with severe pre-eclampsia and pre-eclampsia to equipped centers
Urgent and basic maternity care
Newborn care and treatment of neonatal infections
Examination and treatment of STD diseases
Use of national guidelines and new medical practices
Acting according to the protocol and standards of characterization and treatment
Responsible for accurate registration and treatment of complications in the clinic
Responsible for data collection and monthly reporting of the health center
Participation in the design and implementation of in-service training for clinic personnel
Health promotion on common mental illnesses in Afghanistan according to BPHS
Health promotion, incident detection, counseling, treatment, registration, regular reporting, follow-up and referral of mentally ill and disabled people to higher health centers according to BPHS guidelines.
Responsible for implementing the quality improvement program and pursuing it in harmony with the community
Incident detection, collection of sputum samples of suspected patients, registry, follow-up and treatment of tuberculosis patients according to the DOTs regime
Educating and informing CHW about cases of tuberculosis under treatment who do not have access to the clinic and regular follow-up by CHW
Treat malaria patients according to the National Malaria Control Standard
Diagnosis and treatment of patients with severe anemia caused by PPH
Providing quality ophthalmology services for relevant patients
Improving public awareness about HIV/AIDS
Recommendation to perform HIV test for TB patients
Implementation and strict adherence to infection prevention standards.
Participation in the Women’s Health Council at the clinic level
Responsible for the implementation and supervision of the reasonable use of spices (RUD) in the health center
Active participation in the adaptation of new quality improvement standards
Finding treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill and disabled patients
Finding the treatment and return of patients with eye diseases
