About the position
Throughout the CGIAR System Organization, the Business Operations and Finance (BOF) Unit is in charge of offering programmatic, operational, and technical support services in a number of functional areas, such as finance, treasury, grant administration, business operations, and procurement. Protecting the financial and operational stability of the CGIAR System Organization and the CGIAR System depends on the proper execution of these tasks, cooperation with important stakeholders, and risk management. In order to better allow the organization to fulfill its objective of providing knowledge and innovation for the transformation of food, land, and water systems, the unit will ensure the highest standards of integrity by promoting excellence and professionalism across all teams.
The data analyst, who answers to the senior manager of finance, is in charge of optimizing databases and financial systems as well as providing financial analysis and data management services. The insights they produce have an impact on strategic decision-making, organizational reporting, and goal achievement. The CGIAR System Organization’s reputation for operational integrity and efficiency is enhanced by the providing of insight through a variety of data manipulation and storytelling techniques, which are essential for improving organizational systems, processes, and programs.
Responsibilities
- Identify issues and variances in fiscal and business data, as well as financial transactions and determine how they impact the attainment of key performance indicators (KPIs) and wider program goals.
- Analyze information (e.g., trends, budgets, financial data, etc.) utilizing various data filtering, manipulation and storytelling methods/techniques to generate insights that support the refinement of organizational processes, systems, and tools.
- Conduct financial analysis (e.g., variance analysis, trends analysis) and forecasting to provide insights that support organizational reporting and management decision-making across various operational functions and stakeholders.
- Produce analytical outputs including financial/management reports, dashboards, etc., to highlight issues impacting operational, financial, and/or program integrity.
- Advise management on issues impacting data management and analyses and identify systems, processes, and tools to improve overall quality of analyses and data management practices.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify their data needs and to develop analyses and outputs that effectively support those needs.
- Collaborate with other CGIAR Centers and external stakeholders to build cooperative engagement in ensuring the robustness and accuracy of data being captured for analyses and reporting.
- Oversee the review of finance and planning systems and databases, working closely with the IT team to ensure their stability and performance, while proactively implementing updates and improvements.
- Assess the timely delivery of analyses and other key outputs against business needs and schedules, identifying possible improvements in the organization of information, presentation of findings, and the refinement of the analytical approach.
- Assess analytical insights and outputs against organizational standards, ensuring that deliverables are comprehensive, accurate, and are able to effectively support wider organizational activities and strategic decision-making.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
- University Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics or related field.
- General/relevant experience in data management, financial analysis, and the use of various statistical analysis tools (SAS, SPSS, Stata), programming languages (Python, R, or SQL), and big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, or similar frameworks for large-scale data processing).

- Communication skills: Demonstrated Skill gained through exposure in presentation/promotion.
- Execution skills: Demonstrated Achievement in the execution/delivery of simple programs/services.
Languages
Fluency in English essential to communicate in writing and speaking. Knowledge of a second language desirable.
