UNOPS’s work seeks environmental, social, and economic sustainability, which contributes to progress in equity and the common good in the countries where it operates, thus promoting the improvement of the living conditions of the most needy. UNOPS is present in 23 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its services, products, and technical assistance comply with the public administration principles of transparency, equity, integrity, free competition, impartiality, morality, effectiveness, efficiency, and respect for national institutions.

Since 2014, UNOPS has been a key partner in the development of Honduras, working closely with the government and international partners in priority sectors such as health, infrastructure, water and sanitation, and institutional strengthening.

One of its most notable contributions is its partnership with the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS), through which it facilitates the procurement of more than 671 million prescription medications benefiting more than 1.9 million people. To ensure ethical purchasing practices, UNOPS implemented the DRIVE program in 2019, promoting sustainability and preventing workplace sexual harassment among supplier companies. 

UNOPS has also contributed to other health-related areas, such as the procurement of medical equipment and health infrastructure, and has managed water and sanitation projects in remote communities, improving access to essential services. UNOPS has also developed specialized technical assistance projects, information technology projects, and strengthened digital infrastructure.

The core focuses are sustainability and the integration of gender, diversity, and inclusion into its projects and procurement processes, promoting equality and respect for human rights.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Officer, the Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Intern will:

– Will support the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Officer in leading the implementation of the UNOPS Supply Chain Due Diligence (DRiVE) Programme in Honduras. 

– Will support the implementation of Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives in the projects and office in Honduras.

Education

  • High school diploma is required;
  • It is required to be currently enrolled in the final years of the program or to be a graduate, preferably in Business Administration, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Communication, Social Work, or related fields;
  • A bachelor’s degree will be considered, with a maximum of 3 years of graduation at the time of application.

Work experience:

 

  • It does not require providing professional experience.

Other knowledge or experiences valued to contribute:

  • Have experience writing technical reports, recommendations, and knowledge products with a gender and intersectional approach. 
  • Experience conducting visits/audits to private companies, training sessions, and workshops.
  • Experience organizing events, including workshops, roundtables, discussions, and webinars, is desirable.
  • Experience in research, qualitative and quantitative methods.

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of gender equality, the empowerment of discriminated or vulnerable groups, and different forms of discrimination, particularly gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTIQ, and disability, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the right to health and access to health is desirable.

Languages

  •  Fluency in Spanish is required 
  • Intermediate command of the English language is desirable
