WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), Africa, works closely and as a thought partner with the BU Leader and HR staff members of the Africa Business Unit to implement People strategies in support of organizational objectives.  They will provide strategic direction in the following human resource functional areas: Employee Relations, Compensation, Talent Management including talent acquisition, Benefits, Payroll, Organizational Development. They implement these People Team strategies to ensure consistency in support of a global enterprise.

As a key member of The People Team, The HR Business Partner develops strategic partnerships with senior leaders and liaisons at the Business Unit level to establish and implement strategic HR direction to meet TNC’s organizational goals and mission.  The position reports to the Director, HRBP, Global Conservation and partners with other members of the People Team to collaboratively design, develop and implement best People practices aligned with TNC values and vision for people and culture. This position is based at the TNC Regional office in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) develops strategic business partnerships with senior leaders and the HR team of the Africa Region level to establish and implement strategic HR direction, develop, and recommend processes and to support current and future business needs through development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.  They respond to moderate to complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of aspects applicable in this subject area with accountability for talent management strategies, including talent acquisition, workforce planning, succession management, and trend analysis for the Africa Business Unit. They are accountable for dealing with moderate to complex employee relations matters, assisting Managers to address matters that are managerial and working with the appropriate HR Partners as required. I.e. Director, HRBP, Ethics & Compliance, Employee Relations Team, etc. Their duties are highly confidential and require broad and comprehensive knowledge of TNC’s policies.

The HRBP is a working member of the team.  While they are expected to lead a team, they must also drive, implement, operationalize, and follow through on the work required.

The roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic counsel and subject matter expertise to Regional Managing Director, Africa managers, and HR staff throughout the business unit and serve as a primary liaison between the People Team and BU managers.
  • Leading in the development and implementation of administration of HR standards and client services that support a dispersed organization.
  • Leading projects relevant to HR organizational initiatives.
  • Supervising a Business Unit HR team.
  • Leading BU TNC engagement survey results by synthesizing findings and implementing and/or leading solution-based actions.
  • Providing strategic leadership on BU recruitment process.
  • Management Consulting – Providing input and assistance with structural design including recommendations on organization structure, job creation or elimination, compensation and potential efficiencies; ensuring that managers have working knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and policies; and participating in BU strategic planning as appropriate.
  • Serving as a champion for culture of equity, integrity, and managerial excellence.
  • Resolving moderately complex issues based on expert knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and HR practice.  As needed, escalating complex issues to the Director, HRBP Global Conservation.
  • Ensuring that the Region has a focused Talent Professional Development Program for individuals and managers.
  • Providing consultation to managers to help manage employee performance issues, including terminations, ensuring that legal risks are considered and managed, consulting with their Manager and HR legal staff as needed.
  • Preparing reports, conducting analysis, and presenting data and metrics to BU Leadership as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of HR experience supporting large client groups in global, multicultural, decentralized and complex environments, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience managing the HR function for one or more of the following: employee relations, compensation, performance management, staff development/training, organizational development and talent acquisition.
  • Experience as a strategic Human Resources advisor to senior leaders.
  • Supervisory and management experience of staff members; experience in setting objectives, measuring performance, holding others accountable, etc.
  • Experience supporting large client groups in a global, matrixed, complex environment.
  • Experience in General Human Resource Management with focused experience managing the strategic HR functions in one or some of the following areas: Employee Relations, Compensation, Organizational Development, and/or Talent Acquisition.
  • Experience working with multiple countries and Africa labor laws, payroll, and benefits practices.
  • Experience managing employee relations concerns and conducting preliminary investigations, making recommendations, and influencing change.
  • Experience using MS Office software with experience in constructing and producing reports, data manipulation, and analysis.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Africa and occasionally internationally.
  • Experience in training and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • A member of professional Human Resource Management Practitioner’s body with current practicing certificate.
