Mission and objectives
Since its inception in 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has been the global authority that sets the environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, UNEP works through its divisions as well as regional, liaison and out-posted offices and a growing network of collaborating centres of excellence.
Context
UN Environment is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. This assignment is in the UN Environment’s Corporate Services Division, at the Nairobi duty station. The Enterprise Solutions Unit in the of Corporate Services Division is mandated to enable efficient programme delivery through the use of ICT standards, solution, and overall business process automation supporting the organization’s programme of work. It undertakes a wide range of services, activities, and projects. It works closely with clients throughout the project life cycle to tailor the services to their needs ensuring that the solution meets the required objectives from a specification, resource, and time perspective. The Corporate Services Division safeguards UNEP’s corporate interests by providing it with tools and plans for efficient and effective management and by managing its exposure to risk. It does so in line with the core values of the United Nations as well as all other relevant rules, regulations, and accountability requirements.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of a Programme Management Officer in Enterprise Solutions Section/UNEP’s Corporate Services Division, the UN Volunteer will take the following tasks: 1. UNEP Intranet technical support • Responsible for system performance monitoring and enhancement. • Responsible in coordination with DevOps team for the implementation of connection between Confluence and Sharepoint. • Embedding PowerBI dashboards into Confluence as per business requirements. • Provide regular technical support to Greening of the Blue Course on weCollaborate. • Troubleshoot technical issues of pages/spaces/calendars and other features in weCollaborate on demand. • Ensure security alerts/risks related to Confluence software are addressed timely with DevOps team. 2. Technical assistance and engagement with weCollaborate community. • Provide regular technical updates and relevant information to weCollaborate Community of Practice. • Engagement with weCollaborate focal points on weCollaborate technical matters. • Assists with user-guides and technical documentation development for learning purposes. 3. Mobile Applications Development • Analyse, design, and develop simple mobile applications as per business requirements. Perform other tasks as required. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
