Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for providing accurate and timely laboratory services to support patient diagnosis, treatment, disease control activities, and outreach health camps. The position ensures compliance with national and international laboratory standards, biosafety regulations, and project objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect, label, and process specimens following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct diagnostic tests (hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and others) as required.
- Provide laboratory services during outreach health camps in coordination with the medical team.
- Ensure accuracy of test results through proper quality control measures.
- Maintain strict adherence to biosafety protocols and infection prevention measures.
- Quality Assurance and Equipment Maintenance
- Implement internal and external quality assurance programs.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Identify and report equipment faults, and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and test result logs.
- Prepare and submit timely laboratory reports to the supervisor.
- Safeguard confidentiality of patient and testing information.
- Capacity Building and Coordination
- Support training of healthcare workers on proper specimen collection, handling, and storage.
- Collaborate with clinicians, public health teams, and community health workers to improve diagnostic services.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team activities during health camps and other outreach initiatives.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a clinical or public health laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory techniques, biosafety standards, and quality assurance procedures.
- Experience in supporting outreach health camps and mobile medical services is an asset.
- Experience working with donor-funded health programs is preferred.
