Project Context

The IOM mission in the DRC has a number of construction projects in several provinces. The types of construction include buildings (ground floor, ground floor + 1), sanitary blocks, roads, springs and water points, and also rehabilitation of the same infrastructure. 

Under the general supervision of the Infrastructure Coordinator and the Project Engineers, the Construction Works Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of all activities relating to the construction component.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and evaluate work during construction and/or rehabilitation;
  2. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports on the progress of work;
  3. Raise awareness among service providers about the use of local labor in collaboration with local authorities, for example;
  4. Ensure the monitoring and control of construction work;
  5. Receive equipment, aggregates and materials, ensuring their inspection before use;
  6. Accept the work; Ensure that the work is carried out correctly in accordance with the construction plans provided;
  7. Monitoring of the preparation of works in order to guarantee their compliance with the tender documents, detailed plans, specifications in accordance with the rules of the art;
  8. Supervise and raise awareness among beneficiaries about their participation in the maintenance of the constructed infrastructure;
  9. Monitor and implement environmental and social safeguard measures; 
  10. Ensure the sustainability of the project’s actions. 
  11. Perform any other tasks deemed necessary.

Qualifications

Education
  • University degree in engineering, architecture, or similar from a recognized institution. 
Experience
  • Have at least 4 years of professional experience in monitoring public works and construction.
  • Have a good knowledge of the project intervention areas.
  • Have experience in implementing health, safety, security and environmental plans on construction sites
  • Experience with local construction companies
  • Experience with United Nations agencies or international NGOs is desirable.
