This position is located in the Mission Support Centre (MSC) of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Yambio. Yambio is classified in the “E” category and as a non-family duty station. The Logistics Officer reports to the Field Administrative Officer and Chief Mission Support Centre (MSC). The incumbent provides and coordinates logistics support to ongoing air, land and river operations in the area, as well as support to military, police, security and substantive components of the mission. She/he also identifies, mobilizes resources, implements and reports on special logistics operations.
Responsibilities
Under delegated authority, the Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Coordinate and provide logistics support to ongoing air, land and river operations in the area. Prepare and coordinate logistics and support plans, deployment timelines and budget requirements for planned or new operations. Develop and Coordinates the implementation of Logistic Support Plans (LSP), state emergency contingency plans in the field, in collaboration with other support sections of the mission and under the guidance of the Field Administrative Officer (FAO). Develop and implement methodologies and tools to enable effective execution of logistic plans. Support logistics operations, including, material and personnel through the Operations Unit MSC, for Project Assurance and Logistic Support Plan implementation. •Liaise and coordinate logistics support with other units within the Mission Support Division, such as; Engineering, transportation, communications, movement control and procurement, and outside MSD with security and substantive offices. Develop and implement logistics support policy, formulate SOPs to the common benefit of all Security units. Prepare logistics reports based on accurate and up-to-date information and data received from all relevant counterparts and distribute them according to requirements. Participate in visits to geographical areas of interest; prepare technical reports and briefings. Identify, plan and manage special logistics operations. Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained. Maintain an overall understanding of logistics capability available in the mission area, including those of other UN Agencies/Organizations and NGOs. Perform other related tasks as required.

Education
High school or equivalent diploma or equivalent is required. Certification/diploma or training in a logistics related discipline, i.e. operations management, supply chain management, project management or other relevant field is desirable.

Work Experience
At least 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in planning, coordinating and managing multi-functional logistics support operations in the field is required. Experience in drafting logistics reports, developing plans, policies and SOPs is required. Experience in providing technical advice and guidance on the provision of logistics support to military and police contingents is desirable. Experience in providing logistics and supply chain support services in a complex, volatile, conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable. At least two year experience within the context of a humanitarian relief, military, emergency management, peacekeeping or disaster relief operation in an international environment is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
