Responsibilities & Context

Effectively Operates the rice fortification plant and ensures quality, standards, and appropriateness – 50%

  • Assist in preparing a plan for the operation of the fortification plant and machinery and equipment.
  • Managing the mechanical works, especially the rice fortification process.
  • Design and develop machines, tools, fixtures, and prototypes by researching and implementing new technologies for the Rice fortification process.
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Document all designs related to tools, fixtures, and equipment, including spare parts, calibration requirements, and preventive maintenance protocols.
  • Designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability
  • Developing, testing, evaluating, and troubleshooting all mechanical types of equipment.
  • Discussing and solving complex problems with line managers, electrical engineers, and suppliers along with judging the faithfulness and sanctity of the suppliers.
  • Preparing comparative cost analysis for higher officials to allow them to make decisions in achieving the best quality product at a valued price Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
  • Lead the mechanical maintenance department in the Rice fortification mill, overseeing the operation and upkeep of all mechanical equipment and machinery.
  • Develop and implement effective preventive and predictive maintenance plans to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical issues and implement corrective actions to maintain uninterrupted production.
  • Coordinate with the production, electrical, and quality control teams to ensure optimal performance of spinning machinery.
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring their technical development and adherence to safety standards.
  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of new machinery, ensuring it meets the technical specifications and production needs.
  • Monitor and maintain the inventory of critical spare parts, ensuring availability for maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations in all mechanical operations.
  • Provide technical input for capital projects and machine upgrades, collaborating with senior management on budgeting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with fabrication and assembly teams during manufacturing and assembling offering hands-on support and guidance on design specifications.

Effective monitoring, reporting, and documentation to meet the project objectives -20%

  • Routing check of fire protection system, electrical accidental system, generator maintenance, HOS, and general housekeeping.
  • Prepare individual work plans according to the rice fortification project plan.
  • Regularly monitor and submit timely reports, including monthly/quarterly activity plans, progress reports, and final project completion reports as per WFP standards.
  • Prepare & follow up on mechanical and machinery efficiency monitoring checklists/logbooks for getting the highest production.
  • Prepare various monitoring checklists like oil use records, hours records, electricity consumption reports, efficiency of machine etc.
  • Provide monthly production reports to WFP, ARRRC, CiC, SMSD, CMO, sector, and other agencies.
  • Collect completion reports according to requirements.
  • Report back any problems and constraints encountered during the activities and suggest operational solutions.
  • Prepare and manage reports for regulatory agencies (WFP and IRB) and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare a monthly summary report and share it with IRB management before external sharing of reports.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and address any issues arise within the team.

Coordinating and networking with stakeholders that are appropriate and effective -20%

  • Coordination & networking with key stakeholders, including Navy, ARRRC, SMSD, CMO, and focal agencies for the establishment and operation effectively.
  • Participate in various personal development training, orientation, and workshops.
  • Manage procurement processes, including sourcing mechanical equipment and materials to get the highest product.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the supply chain team to ensure the timely availability of mechanical & electronic materials.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and analyze rice fortification production data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify improvement areas and implement corrective actions.
  • Linkages with government officials, BPDB, local mechanical department, CiCs, CMOs, UN agencies, and NGOs for the smooth operation of project intervention.
  • Address any complaints, feedback, or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare and submit a plan of the monthly activities to the line manager.
  • Report back any problems and constraints encountered during the activities and suggest operational solutions.

Others – 10%

  • Participate in sessional programs like winterization, Ramadhan, Qurbani etc.
  • Support to ensure the complaint response and feedback mechanism at the field level.
  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the program’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a critical source of support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding and establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote, and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

This Incumbent will be based in Bhasanchar.

Benefits & Allowances for this position will be – 10% hardship allowance upon on monthly salary, Mobile bill, Tour allowance/Per-diem, Provident fund, Insurance coverage (IPD, OPD, Life, DB, CIB), Festival Bonus, Long Service Awards, Leave (Annual, Casual, Sick, TOIL/CTO, Maternity, Paternity and R&R) and Gratuity, etc. Accommodation will be provided by Islamic Relief Bangladesh (only applicable for Bhashanchar). Hardship Allowance (10% of the monthly salary for each month) Free Accommodation Facility Rest and Recreation Leave Other benefits will be provided as per organizational HR policy.
