About

Information about the organization that has offered the job:

Founded in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is one of the United Nations System Agencies and the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, working closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does this by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Difficult migration journeys can trigger negative emotions, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. For some migrants, psychological well-being is affected by emotional distress related to stress, worry, and uncertainty about their future, while others may also have experienced severe stressors, including violence, exploitation, torture, sexual violence, perilous journeys, and abuse. In some cases, pre-existing psychosocial problems and mental health disorders are exacerbated during the migration experience.

The provision of  mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services  in the centres plays an important role in protecting and assisting migrants, contributing significantly to the sustainability of other centre interventions. Given the diversity of migration experiences, there is no single method or model for providing mental health and psychosocial support in migrant centres.

Within the framework of voluntary return assistance and support projects, under the general supervision of the Protection Coordinator and the direct supervision of the SMSPS Officer, and in cooperation with the relevant IOM services, the Consultant will provide operational and technical support aimed at contributing to mental health assistance and the well-being of migrants at IOM centers, through the arts.

Visual arts are practices of care, assistance, support, or rehabilitation that involve caring for people with communication and/or relationship difficulties. Visual arts encompass all practices or activities that provide artistic, aesthetic, or poetic representation through forms and volumes. This includes disciplines such as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and digital arts. These practices aim to develop individuals’ creativity, sensitivity, and personal expression, while conveying messages and emotions. Visual arts include: arts related to modeling, such as sculpture, ceramics, and architecture.
